just baught this rig!

Always read and heard they deliver 20-22mpg!

Just a few days and 1 fill up but I am seeing 12 mpg with mixed driving!

very few WOT events.

I guess this must have 4. 10 gears? Don't know but I was really looking for some higher readings! Any thoughts??

Look at the decal on the bottom side of the hood. It should state what gears you have ;) What RPM are you turning at say 70mph?

Check for codes. Turn key on/off/on/off/on and wait. Watch odometer and write down what ever it says. You could have a bad IAT or MAP sensor. Could also be a APPS out of adjustment, but that should not hurt the milage all that much. What is the milage at, has the rack been run (valve adjustment) Auto or manual transmission.

 I hope there is a repairable reason for my poor mileage. I have seen no more than 12 mpg yet! Fighting some other minor problems also so not able to drive a ton yet, I have had a sticky right rear caliper that I will work on today but it is not always sticking and never bad enough to feel in any way, so I do not think that is hurting the mileage at all or to any degree! I will check for codes today! Let you know if I find anything later! Going out to look for my gear ratio sticker now!

Thanks

Ok, I found out it has 3. 55 ratios and I do have the auto.

I am still looking at about 12 but will start driving the wheels off it as soon as I get past this sticky rear brake that I am on now!

Thanks for all the help!

I have a truck like yours, mines a 6 speed, 4. 10 gears. Stock I got 17. 5 MPG like clock work, city or highway. Now with a TST Powermax 3, I'm up to 19 MPG. Have you checked / cleaned the IAT?

I also had "sticky" rear brake calipers, replaced both. Even if it's not hurting your fuel economy, it is hurting the pads and maybe rotors. I wouldn't let them go for long.

Good luck,

Robert

thanks

I have only filled up twice so far so there is limited data to look at!

My economy is definitly lower than I have heard for these trucks!

I will have a new caliper on the truck befroe noontime tomorrow!

I have not yet checked for codes but will try and get to that in the morning also.

I will leave the computer on the ceiling for the kids to play with.

Updates to follow!

The very best mileage I ever got was 17 MPG! That was 5 years ago on vacation up around Graeagle CA.

I average about 12-14 around town, freeway is not much better. Towing my 12K fiver - 10-11 MPG

only have 35K on the odometer... .

15-16 around town or on the highway, I have gotten 19 when I drive like you guys must, which has to be like my grandmother and she is dead. The intake temp sensor is a good thing to change and see what happens, winter fuel kills mileage. Let's see what the caliper change does and go from there, my next thing would be the IAT.

the 0500 seems common on 01 3500's. Mine throws it constantly (VSS sensor Vehicle Speed Sensor)

P1596 Speed Control Switch Always High Speed control switch input above maximum acceptable

voltage.

Hmmmm

not sure were these codes should lead me! I plugged in my genysis scan tol and found only the speed sensor code, the rest were not found only by the on board key proceedure! Hmmm!

My mileage is low and my cruise does not work! More to look at I guess!

Thanks

I've had my truck for over a year now and the best I've seen for mileage was around 15! I drive 20 min. 's to work and 20 back at 75mph with some stop and go other than the commute and normally see 12 -14. I pulled a car in an enclosed trailer to Col. from IL. last June and got 10mph there. I actually got worse mileage on the way back! I have yet to see the 17-20 everyone talk's about either. I have no code's. I do have 285 tire's, and a heavy foot at time's but even if I try to go easy for a tank it doesn't work. I'd like some idea's also! :(

I would not even question it but my friends 99 Quad cab dually 4x4 gets 15. 5 city and 20 highway! He has 4. 10 gears adn smaller tires! So I think I should see the same? OR even better! Well it's time to go fill up again!

Never had that problem... 175k miles. :)

now getting 13 mpg mixed driving! No codes have come back yet!

I have done the fuel filter, sticky rear caliper and oil and filter! Might have an issue with the tcc unlocking at the wrong time on highway travel! This could be robbing my economy!
