Had Breakfast today with a buddy that works for the US Dept of Forestry, I had some napkin sketches and thoughts from my regular breakfast Pards at the cafe. Was asked if I was wanting to keep people out? or keep people out and possessions in?
If anyone really wanted to they could take things out of the place by taking down the fence with a chain and truck, im just looking at keeping unwanted people from driving down the driveway. He suggested the way that the Forestry Dept does it, they even have some with automatic gate openers if that's what is needed for ease of entry without getting out of the truck to open the gate. Like our access roads to the fire watch towers and the weather station.
Two poles one each side of the driveway and a hinged swing gate that is long enough to span the driveway. Nothing to worry about with plowing the snow other than the poles on the side of the drive. He suggested to make them high enough so Penny can see them and don't wipe them out with the tractor when she is plowing the drive while we are having our coffee and sweet rolls in the driveway warming hut. :-laf
Penny didn't see the humor in that and gave him a punch in the arm :-laf
The pole on the side opposite the hinge side has a Pin Lock that is automatic on some of their gates and even then when they want to keep someone out FOR-SURE They rap it and chain and lock with an alloy chain that would take one hell of a set to bolt cutters or a touch to cut thru, Bottom line is if they want in bad enough THEY ARE GOING TO GET IN!!! He said that its a pretty tuff gate they have pulled up to the gates and found many a truck bumper or trailer hitch laying on the road with a chain still attached to the gate and the bumper/ or hitch :-laf
There are many good gate access openers that are Smart Phone connected, rather than the old garage door openers that's really not hard to break into and find the code that is used to open the auto gate
I asked if he knew where I could find a STOP sign and the Caution Signs, he suggested a late night run to Condon MT they have some new ones that were just put up, they need a 9/16 box end wrench or a small pneumatic ratchet and air tank with a small stepladder for added convince, Tom our Sheriff said that his ears are plugged up with his cold and didn't hear that
