I will be installing gauges this weekend, and I need to know which wires I need to splice into to make gauge lights turn on with headlights, and to have them dim with switch. The truck is a 97.
when i did my gauges i spliced into the wire from the cupholder light. it may be different. but you probably could pull the headlight switch out and test with a 12volt tester.
I tapped into a TAN wire near my switch in my 99. The same wire also runs down to power the light near the ashtray. I also replaced the clear bulbs with orange/amber bulbs. The green wasn't enough light to see real good and the red buls made my gauges look pink.
Pull off your knee panel of the dash and look behind your fusebox and you'll see two small gauge orange wires running into the same fuse. Pierce them to be sure they dim with the dashlights and use a scotchlock or T-tap into either one of them. If you are looking at the rear of the fuse panel, it'll be in the upper rear quadrant.
