HI Guys:

Where is the best place to mount a pair of gauges? I have a Boost and E. G. T gauge from Banks but have not installed them yet. I was leaning towards the A-Pillar mount but was wondering if there was a dash mount. I think this will be a straightforward process.

I will just screw in the fitting for teh boost gauge into the intake directly below the intake hose on top of the engine, right? For the Pyrometer, i'm going ot but it pre-turbo so I drill a 1/4" hole into the manifold, TST has great instructions in their book, and tap it. Now, for teh lighting, I just take the light switch out and hook one wire into it and the other to ground, correct? I suppose you use a volt meter to see which wire has power when the parking lights are on?

Thanks for the tips.

:D Installing 3. 5" Jardine performance exhaust tomorrow, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Be sure and drill the hole off center on the exhaust manifold.

There is a four wire plug under the dash that is intended for the optional factory tach. I use this for turning the lights on for my gauge set up. It will also dim the new gauge lights along with the stock gauges.

J DeMaio,

I tapped into fuse #13 in the fuse block. This fuse as a power supply dims the gauge lamps when the instrument panel is dimmed.

The autometer catalog online and their tech desk don't show the dash mounts anymore fo r the pre 94 models I have the dash kit in my 89, in the pics below, but now am converting to the pillar mount for the 93. For my 89 I had the tach mounted over the center speaker hole and it was natural to have them all in one spot.

I used the same spot Gene used off of the power to the tach hookup for the lights.

Pillar Mount

First gen pillar mount for two gauges is Autometer part number 15198, see the photo below for what it looks like installed.

Notice something??... There are no selections for pre 94 Dodge. They are no longer available anywhere I looked. Maybe Banks still sells them? Dunno. .

Nice install Neil... I'll have to move my Tach to that position after the gauges go in, if they ever get here...

Yep,

You are right, I was looking at the 89 Chevy Gauge.

Does anyone have a 3 gauge mount for the right side dash of a Gen 1, that they would like to sell? I'm not having much luck finding one. Would prefer just the mount, if possible, as the budget is stretched at this time.

I did call Autometer....

FWIW I did call just before my order 2 weeks ago, and no more dash mounts for the pre 94's.

Thats wierd, i spoke to them only a few weeks ago and they "We have stuff for all the Cummins Rams they built" I have to call them this week, i will see what the story is.

In the meantime, Try www.jannetyracing.com When i was there he had TONS of gauge pods, he may have an old one lying around.

I mounted egt and boost gauges in a 2 hole dash mount. (Autometer ~ 16 ga. metal) I drilled one hole in the center of the mounting flange that uses one of the existing dash bezel screws. It is located across a portion of the message center area and covers the "Turbo Diesel" lettering and the fuel idiot light. There is not a problem with the A/C vent being obstructed. Three gauges probably would though.

I drilled a 3/8 hole straight up through the bezel, behind the gauges to run the tubing and wires. (no obvious hole if you ever remove the gauges and sell the truck) For lighting, I Scotch Locked a wire into the wire that goes to the light over the ash tray, which is on the dimmer switch. You will need a brass close 90 on the boost line

Only drawback to this setup is you can see the edges of the gauges between mount and dash. I really don't care though.

Hey paychk, try Scheid Diesel. I got mine from them. They also have some of the best customer service on Gods' green earth. ;)

Thanks for the tip! I spoke with Jeff of the Effingham office of Scheid's and just recieved my new 4 hole dash mount, $73. 00 with shipping, also they can get the three hole type too. The customer service was outstanding to boot. I highly recommend them.

Thats What I'm Talkin' 'Bout

Hey what did I tell ya?, glad that I could help out paychk. Now comes the hard part, which gauges will I fill my pod with? I'm still a fan of GeneH's custom 8 gauge pod:D

Another thumbs up for Scheid, I registered for their upcomming rally (I forget which night), when I came home from work the following day, my package was waiting for me;)

Thats the rub, I know that I want a tach, pyro, and boost I've not settled on the forth yet. I think it will probably end up being a temp gage with multiple senders in the engine oil / transmission/ rearend. The first will be the least cost and build from there, But I'll go with Isspro (gota go with a local company and home is the Northwest) but also their quality is outstanding.
