Installed new autometer gauges yesterday and it looks like I have A bad lift pump. 10-11psi at idle, 9psi cruising at 65mph and 3-5psi at wot. I have an edge ez and DD1's, what do you guys think? I have the fuel line attached to the fitting on top of the fuel filter canister and its attached to the one closest to you and kind of to the left if your looking straight at it from the front. Is this the right one? Also I'm seeing 5 pounds of boost while cruising at 65 and a max of 25psi if I get on it pretty hard, does this sound alright? EGT's are running about 800 while cruising. Thanks...

That's about where my fuel pressure was at until I upgraded the fuel lines. Now I'm 13-14 at idle, 13 cruising and 10-11 at WOT. 3-5 at wot isn't all that bad, the injection pump is still getting more fuel than it can use. I would upgrade the lines first, I bet your lift pump is fine, for now anyway, it WILL fail. I'm on my 4th, first 3 in less than 20k, then I did the fuel lines. Just put the 4th in at 70k.

First off welcome B. Everything sounds normal, your pressure is about right for a stock fuel system. The VP44 has a low pressure pump and as long as you are suppling it with a positve pressure you'll be ok. Sounds like you tapped itno the correct pressure port on the filter housing. As you your gauge reading, boost and EGTs sound normal. You should post your Sig.

Just for a comparison, mine's stock and the fuel pressure runs 12 at idle, 9 cruisin, and 7 to 8 wot.

Welcome to TDR Bpostel. It sounds like you have been reading for a while or you have good instincts:D . The gauge install is the correct first step, likely there will be more "steps";) . I'm no expert, but your #s are in line with what I see and seem OK at present. I suspect my lift pump is on it's way out because I sometimes see significantly lower pressures during "colder" operation which bounce up to normal after warm up. Keep an eye on it, that's why you have the gauge. Have Fun, Jim G.

gauges installed, not good

Thanks guys for the help! I thought that at WOT the psi should never drop below 8psi or is it that I have an edge ez and the DD1s that I'm seeing the 3-5psi at WOT? Thanks again. .

I took mine in for low pressure, 11 idle, 4 to 5psi WOT, and the Dealer installed new lift pump.

New pump 15 to 16 idle, 12 to 13 WOT. I run the EZ allso.

You think yours is bad

Checked mine on Saturday with a manual gauge: 2 psi at idle, 0 psi at throttle and when I stomped on it it would go up to 11 psi and hover around there until I stopped, at which time it would return to 2 psi and repeat the same thing. I figure I've been driving around like that for a few thousand miles now. I think it's time to get the lift pump changed.

Bpostel, My pressures are the same as yours. . 3 at WOT. . about 10-11 at idle... I have an appointment at the dealer in the AM to check. . and hopefully replace the lift pump... I plan to up grade my fuel system also. . but I would like to see a little higher psi first... Today I am going to move the gauge to before the filter housing. . just for a comparison... (it has a new filter so I figure it to be Ok. ) I'll let U know what they tell me tomorrow...

numbers not good

I don't think you're hurting your injection pump too much, but those numbers would justify replacement by DC if you're still under 100k warranty. My numbers were similar(11psi @ idle, 8-9 cruising, 5-6 WOT), and I just had a new pump installed last week under warranty. Now I've got 15@ idle, 12 cruising, 9-10 WOT. I don't have injectors, which might make a difference, and my gauge is at the bottom of the filter cannister. My old pump would give eratic low pressures when started back when it was cold weather, which didn't inspire confidence. I would change the pump.

Thanks again guys for the quick replies. I'm gonna try to take it to the local stealer tomorrow and see what they have to say. I'll let you what they say.

GGGrrrrrr... ... ... . Dealers pi$$ing me off!!!!!! They called and left a message. . said the pressure was 7psi, and that I was not checking the pressure correctly??  Hello... Its a pressure guage. . I guess I got the 3 (and lower) confused with the 7psi.....

The only thing I know that I did different was I removed the valve from the fitting at the VP44 to install my guages. . I don't see how this could have made a difference???!!!!!!!

I see another:-{} coming on... ...

(looks like its time to upgrade the fuel system... )

Fuel pressure

You guys got me worried now. My pressures seem real low.

Im getting 8-10 at idle and average running pressure is about 6-8. I hit 0 psi before WOT but the truck keeps pulling.

I have an Autometer mechanical guage with a fuel isolator. Pulling pressure off the side of the pump with a drilled banjo bolts. All the banjo bolts have been upgraded.

Will Dodge still warranty this even with all my upgrades?

Thanks for the advice

cD'amato,

I'm using an autometer 4313 fuel pressure gauge. It's an 0-15psi gauge, with an isolator. I ordered everything from Jeg's, pretty good price and easy to hook up.

B. Postel

I have a question about your isolator. . where did U mount it?? (and how big is it. . I've seen the pic at the Summit add, but can't tell about its size. ) Do you still have to run the lines inside with that setup??

Thanks

Bryan

ATM-4313

Thats the gauge I wanted to go with. My only reservation was Im not quite sure how easy it is to route the Interior steel braided hose from the Isolator to the back of the gauge. Which route did you take and did you cut any holes in the dash. Thats what Im trying to avoid.

I do not have the Isolator in my system, just the line from the pump to the gauge. . (I know I shouldn't have the line directly into the cab. . ) it is a pain running the steel line into the cab. . I did not have to cut any holes other than through the fire wall. I have the fuel pressure gauge mounted in the lower hole in my 3 gauge pillar mount. I used a 6ft steel braided line and it still is short of reaching the VP pump. (not my much)

I am courious about the isolator. . I am wondering if you have to use a steel braided line after the isolator. . couldn't you just use one of those cheap plastic lines?? (I guess I don't under stand the purpose of the isolator. I thought it was to seperate the actual fuel from the line going to the gauge???)
