cool more york pictures please!!!. . I want to mount one on my truck. I have the gear driven compressor here from a FL80 freightliner box truck it had a p pump engine. . the issue with mounting it in afirst gen ,is the motor mount is in the way. . I want to swap in hydroboost brakes any how. . I may be playing with this setup in teh spring when I do my trans swap, p pump swap, cometic phuzion head gasket, studs, twins etc. . ha so the engine will be apart and I'd be able to play with fitment etc. .

Thanks

Deo

I bet I could get a coupler from work to tap kegs off the compressed air too... hmm, this is sounding better and better.

Hey rabbit or CS, if either of you get pictures I'd be grateful to see what you got.

Just to further confuse the issue, could a front motor mount from a medium duty truck be adapted to our frames doing away with the motor mount issue?

York pics

test pic,

Ok heres a back shot of the York . you can see the intake and exhaust lines and the oil return line here...

Not without adapting a rear mount. That would be kinda hard with the Dodge style bellhousing. The medium duty trucks use SAE type bellhousings with side mounts.

I want to put an air comp on my engine as well and have done a lot of research on it. The Kilby unit is nice but is designed for 24 valves so it won't work on a 12v as the stat housing is totally different. I have seen several different kind of compressors on mechanics service trucks. The mount by the alt as well, but are quite bulky unless you go with the " screw " type compressor ( $$$ ). I want to use a setup like what is on csniders truck as I have a friend who works on A/C on semis and has all the parts and expertise to do the job. ( Thanks for the great pics ) I think this is the cheapest way to go. As mentioned the gear driven unit won't work because you would have to loose your vac/ps pump and left motor mount. My buddy has a PTO driven comp on his service truck. It's not a common or cheap setup and you need a manual trans. Shadrach

I'm a dealer for extreme outback products. The extremeflow compressor is rated at 8cfm at 100psi. Its not continuous duty at full load, but it will take a beating. I will double check there is a 12v mount kit. I can give great prices on any product on their site.

Why don't you just cut out your A/C and run pressure side to a tank with a filter on low side. i plan on changing my 93 this spring. at a shop i used to work at we had a chevy wrecker and toyota service truck and both just had 25' air line coils under the hood with a toggle to trigger air compresor (cheap boss). those trucks would blow up a 10x20 in no time you just had to remember to shut off toggle when done so airline didn't blow off(happned a few times).

I don't have ac in my truck. . also the rotary compressors need oil lube added to the air to last... . I'd ideally want a/c and a air compressore too... . oh well probably never happen for me

I was working on a backhoe at work, had a good bracket on the A/C. It mounts on the 3 holes in the front of the head above the IP. The 1st piece hangs out over the side with a pin boss, and the 2nd hangs off that. If you had one of those extreme outback or other A/C shaped compressors, it would be great! Or, you could make a bracket to mount the York off the 1st one.

I'll try to get pics tomorrow, but no promises, it might be gone by then.

There are a bunch of options for gear driven air compressors on our cummins engines. Someone mentioned the compressor interfering with the motor mount. I do not know if it will or not, but they seem to fit fine on the trucks I have been researching this topic from. I just purchased mine, so I will see how it does. These are pretty cheap, and rebuild kits are very reasonable. The Hydraulic pumps you can use now are serious stuff to power all of our Hydraulic goodies. Remember that the air compressor spins at the same as crankshaft rpm.

All these air compressors have Coolant circulating to cool them. So some plumbing is required. All can be Supercharged by the turbo for increased performance.

All the manuals are available on the Bendix Website http://www.bendix.com. Note there are two different spots for two different manuals, each with different information in them on the website.
Here: http://www.bendix.com/en-us/service/library/Pages/Catalog.aspx and here: http://www.bendix.com/en-us/service/library/Pages/SDSheets.aspx.
Also good info here: Air Brake Catalog

Where it mounts:
in the spot where your vacuum pump and Saginaw p132 power steering pump mount. Make sure you buy a Cummins Air Compressor for a 5. 9. The front flange will be part of the main case. It will look like the SAE mount that came off you vacuum pump. Dont buy the Round Cummins compressor, as those are for the HUGE engines.

The two main types: Through shaft and non-though shaft. What you want are the through shaft compressors, unless you don't want to mount something(power steering pump) on the back side of the compressor. Some of the compressors just have a block-off plate you can remove to bolt a steering pump to it. They also make a Saginaw p132 power steering pump without the compressor to mount to our engines if you didn't know.

Lets start with Bendix brand compressors:
**NOTE, These are general pictures, the mounts in the drawings are not all correct for out engines**

Bendix 2150 - Most common on ebay. most have an SAE "A" Mount on the backside for bolting a SAE "A" mounted hydraulic pump. Very common are the 2150's of the f-600's and f-700's with a ZF Pump Attached. PM for more info on the ZF pump if you have one.

Heres one off a military truck.

Here is the most common f600/f700 combo.

The Bendix Tu-Flo 400 - I don't know much about this unit as I haven't downloaded the manual on it yet. I assume it is the same as the others, with less displacement.

The Bendix Tu-Flo 500 -
This is one of the largest cfm rating you can get. It is a two cylinder compressor. Harder to find.

The Bendix Tu-Flo 501 -
This is a two piece version of the 501. More then that I do not know. I have yet to put my hands on a 500 or a 501. The last one I bid on the seller had a very high reserve, and I didnt get it.
