I have had this problem since I got the truck and wondered if it would losen up and stop. But when I am mashin' the go pedal and shift into 5th it always grinds then goes in. Doesn't happen in regular driving or when towing. Only happens when I get after it to get on the Highway or pass a Ford or something like that. Happens cold or hot doesn't matter.

Other then that I haven't had any other problems with the transmission. I have about 55k on it now and am not sure if I should take it in before it's too late.

Should I not worry about it and wait for the first rebuild or take it in and demand a replacement and play roulette on if the new one would be as good in other places?

Yer allready to late, the 100,000 mile warrenty doesn't cover that. I'm not sure what to tell you, 'cause it's not going to be cheap whatever you do, 'cause the trans will have to come out and be takin' apart.

If it was me, I'd pull it apart myself, how handy with tools are 'ya?

If thats not an option I think I'd just drive it, unless you can't deal with it. Just my . 02

Extended Warranty

Hmm. . I always thought the gear clash was when it was cold and from 3rd to 4th.

I failed to mention that I was one of the suckers that used the 1500 cash back to buy the extended warranty...

Other than maintenance stuff I am not real handy with the end of a wrench. And the TSB mentioned a 20 ton press.

I guess I will take off the BHAF and drive it to my friendly and professional dealership.

My friendly and professional dealership said they couldn't perform the TSB (mine is 5th gear also - even when warm, but happens maybe only once or twice a week. ) May have to try more than one dealer.

I actually don't know if it's better to leave it alone or to risk have something change after the TSB is performed. Maybe somebody who has had this TSB done can comment? Or ask that question in the subject line of a new post. Hope it works out for you either way.
