Have really enjoyed this thread! Lots of information...and lots of opinions! I guess for my driving/towing, I can't see when I would ever use 6th gear with the 3.42's. I agree that wt. being the only consideration the 3.42 would pull just fine especially with the Aisin. But driving at 65 mph would be at very low rpms...way below torque curve....so I would basically never use 6th gear? Seems like a wasted gear for my driving style. I believe it really all comes down to how fast or slow you drive. In my mind, driving at 65 with 4.10's gives me a bit more rpms than I want to cruise at all day....my 3.73's are just almost perfect around 1700 and I do think the 3.42's would be way too low....if I could throw in something like a 3.9 I think it would be perfect-for me! It's not a matter of weight....it's a matter of speed. I would like to see a high mileage test comparing a one ton DRW with the three gear ratios...would be interesting to see actual mileage....but bottom line for me is that I bought to tow at my speeds...
