Competition Gear selection for sled pulling?

What gearing should a guy use to start in to sled pull with a 5 speed?

As in differential gearing or what gear in the transmission?



For the transmission gear, a Dual Disk clutch and larger input shaft is manditory first, of course. Then most guys pull in 3rd Gear Low Range.



As far as the diff. gearing Dodge only came with 3. 55's & 4. 10's... . sure the 4. 10's are a little better for pulling, but just slap on some smaller tires on a 3. 55 geared truck.

Well it hasn't been hooked to a sled yet bean pole



However its seen quite a few 3rd gear burnouts!



I really need to quit that or I will have to have it rebuilt before the end of pulling season! :{



However when I do get it hooked to a sled bean pole it will be the same as above, 3rd gear low range same as you in your fancy little 3rd gen. :-laf
