Genos Turbo Timer on 04.5 question

If there are any gains from gutting it they are minimal, at least on a stock motor. Most guys do it so they can hear the sound of the turbo itself.

It's hard for me so say what diff taking the honeycomb out made. I did it and the silencer ring at the same time. It does seem that since doing those things, the engine has a deeper tone at highway speeds... possibly more turbulent air going into the turbo? The thing does scream like a banshee going up hills with a load. I usually listen to the radio on about level 25 - maybe 28. I can usually hear her screaming over the rock-n-roll with the winders down.

Does that help explain the noise level?

Andy

No offense, but this is awfully 'ricey'. You guys rip on the ricers for putting those stupid pop can exhausts on their cars, that make them louder but no faster... then come back with this!! To each their own, but if I'm going to spend time working on my engine or money modifying it, it had better gain some performance of some sort!

Hmm, I think you miss how ricers think all together. If we were acting like ricers, we would do this and claim 20% increases in power. Not just for liking the sound. If I didn't want to hear my turbo, I wouldn't have bought a turbo charged vehicle.

It was primarily designed to improve the under hood appearance. A little bit of sound improvement is nice also, although on a decibel meeter it is hardly detectable. If making your engine look a little nicer is considered "Ricer", just call me Yao! Almost anything one can drive has available dress up items for under the hood and my goal is to give the Dodges equipped with the Cummins engine some options. Polished or chrome wheels give no performance advantage either, but they sure look perdy. Just my opinion.

Let me say this... sound is just as important as looks and performance are.

I have a 2000 Peterbilt 379 extended hood with a 600HPCAT, 18 speed transmission with 8" straight pipes. Let me tell you about noise... ... ... ... ... . When I hit a long hill at 70MPH grossed out at 80,000lbs, I will show 32PSI boost, about 1000F on the piro at around 1400RPM, my turbo will come on-line and rip your heart out with all of its sweat song that she sings.

The turbo whistle is music to my ears... ... ... ... .

998ci in-line 6 cylinder with no mufflers is anything but quiet... .

DRIVE PROUD... ... ... ... ... DRIVE LOUD

Preach on brother!!!

I don't know where you are located, but I'd love to check that rig out sometime. I don't know much about them, but am facinated by them.

If you're ever going to be in the Nashville, TN area, send me a PM or give me a call. I'll buy you a cup of coffe and listen to you tell me about that Peterbilt all night!

Take care,

Andy

eliminator

all the post are great... . I am new to the diesel world. . The reason I started this thread is to slowly ease myself into some mods... . I saw the eliminator in Geno's catalog and started to think what it might do as far as gains and sound. . a few weeks ago, camping, a newer Ford Power-joke, I mean stroke (just kiding I like all diesels, just the Cummins more) drove by at a idle speed... The whistle from this machine was awesome..... I wondered if modifying the stock eliminator tube would do the same thing as the Geno's version, save $$ and also achieve more of that sweet song of the turbo that I love. . Like others have said, The turbo is a sweet song, and if i didn't want to hear it, I wouldn't have bought a TURBO... . It's not just about performance, but also about style. .

I really appreciate all the post... Now I have to decide weather to save 50$ and mod. the stock, or spend the $ I can see this my be a beginning to a whole lot of spending... . Just trying to save where I can. .

Andyman, all you have to do is ask and I will tell you all I know about trucks and trucking. I have a passion for teaching people new things.

Sorry Andy, I no longer run coast to coast. The road is no place to be when you start a family. 10-4?

I am from northern N. J. all you have to do is ask and I will be more than happy to answer any questions you have. Like I said I have a passion for teaching people things.

Two things I look for on the road-- Dodge/Cummins trucks and big pipes on the big rigs. Just love them 7" and 8" stacks!

I'm doing 5" stacks on the 12v soon. ;) :D

Question for you Driver: I saw a big-piped truck the other day with sexy chrome mufflers or resonators. They were just barely bigger in diameter than the pipes and about as long as a standard truck muffler. Any idea where to get those? That's the only set I've seen.

Good point :) . I had never really considered how much valuable information we all share here on the forum. More, by far, than $35. And just having the correct information is priceless.

Hey guys. New subscriber here, thought i would lend my own advice on this subject. Something that works really good is to

get a 4" schedule 80 PVC glue coupling and put it in place of the

X shaped pipe. The coupling is almost the exact o. d. and is just

a little bit shorter than the oem piece. There is plenty of room in the elbows to take up the slack. and the best part is the coupling is dark grey so it almost looks stock while installed.

Thats what i got.

Member for couple of weeks and loving it immensely.

I just ordered the Geno's eliminator kit for my 04. 5 and an AFe replacement filter. My neighbors were complaining how quiet it has been since I got my new diesel. I had a 2002 Ram with Gibson exhaust and really liked the noise. So lets see how quiet the neighborhood will be now... ... ... .

I removed my silencer ring last week and hopefully with the new air filter I will get a little more sweet sweet sound of that turbo working... ... ... I'll let you know how it sounds when I get it all on... .....

I like sound.

Oh... to stay on topic...

The Eliminator Tube is a good looking piece that allows you to very easily return to stock if for some reason you would ever want to.

The turbo noise/whistle to me is music.
