If there is chevy bell housing with the V8 pattern, why not use a chevy trans adaptor on the engine and go that way? The only problem I could think of would be clutch size. You may not be able to get a big enough clutch in that bell to hold the diesel torque. I dunno, thinking out loud.

bellhousing

I think what is in order here is to make a new bell housing... . Body lifts are a bad idea and a pain to get the fan to center... ... Cutting the floor and giving up your heater/AC is not a good plan either... .....

I spoke to Lakewood last year about making a steel bell that would use use some of the medium duty truck transmissions we had used in years past... They will do it if I do the engineering and pay the tooling and set up costs...

Lakewood is known for its steel blow proof bell housings that are used in drag racing..... The bell that they would make is 10 times as strong as the stock Getrag !

I opted not to do the bell last year due to the fact that I never really have had any problems with the getrag... .

If enough guys want a bell I might consider doing the project... .

I have looked at that ... I was planning a body lift, a big hammer and cutting the floor and using the removable floor section out of an earlier truck with some modification... ... and trying to make that work... but you bring up a really good point...

and your comments really got me thinking there may be a better way... (using a smaller hammer and less butchering... )

... I have seen several of these transmisions used in M715's and other applications with a 4bt or chevy motor. The chevy guys use a belhousing out of a c50 or c60 with a big block that slopes like the stock Getrag belhousing but adapting it to the cummins would probibly be more work that it is worth... but the belhousing is interesting in that it bolts into the front of the trans not the other way arround where the bolts go into the belhousing like the stock getrag.

Depending on input shaft length ... (would have to pull the Getrag to find out) What about Using the stock belhousing and a nice adaper plate or enlarge the locating center and modify the stock belhousing to bolt the belhousing to the the 3053a ...

Any one have a stock belhousing laying arround they want to get rid of ??? ... I need one to cut, weld on and see if I can make this work...
