First, Is there a good gearbox shop in MD/PA for the getrag?
Here is what I've got. Top cover off, oil is alumium/silver colored. Front shifting fork(2&3gear) I. D is greater than the O. D. of the collar. The trans would intermitantly shift into one not the other.
It all started back when the rear cover was replaced after a u-joint failure. The old flying driveshaft smashed the crap out of everything
. The rear seal was replaced, with the rear cover but leaked (flowed), the trans ran low on oil before I made the repair. The new seal is leaking a little. The seal surface on the yolk is good. I wonder about a bearing going bad.
The question is did the lack of oil destroy the fork? Can the fork be replaced with out any other work? The trans shifts well by hand, w/o shifter. The cones move axely but not up and down on the shaft. No metal slivers in oil.
Are there books for the getrag360? Other than a press is there any special tools needed?
I am a diesel engine tech not a gearbox guy.
Thank you for the help.
