7 pin RV hook-up---has it changed????

Need Clutch Info

If you were gettin' a new truck. For heavy towing, would you get a 5, or 6 speed and why did you make that choice?

Does the 6 allow you to sort of "split" a gear? Or, is first a "Granny" and you'll most likely use 2nd for every day light leaving?

Thanks in advance.

The only choices available for "new" trucks is the 4 speed auto and the 6 speed manual. 1st gear on the 6 speed is a granny, so you don't need it for empty launches. IMHO, the 6 speed is the choice for those who tow heavy.

That answers that, eh? :D

Thanks.

I tow a 34 foot 5th Wheel weighing 16000 lbs. Total combined weight (GCWR) is 24500 lbs (slightly overweight) I love my 6 speed. The 1st gear will allow you to maneauver your trailer with ease. The governor at the low end solves a lot of problems. I had an automatic before, beliver the 6 speed is the only way to go!!

Sold a perfectly good '01. 5 auto to get a six speed. Haven't regretted it even once. I run 8% grades at about 18,000 lbs GVW and LOVE the six speed. Loved it so much I bought another one. Have two now :) and the only thing stopping me from buying more is a lack of extra cash!

ps. I like the 6 spd.

row your own... 6 all the way

i bought an 04. 5 with 4. 10 and 6 speed. with my small trailer at about 9k i never left 6th gonig from camp pendleton to boise ID and ten to eugene or. was doing about 70 most of the way. had to slow down a few times... due to no space to pass... . Oo.

i hate autos and have never had good luck with them, BUT this is my first dodge.

Unless you'r planning on a modified transmission from one of the custom transmission people such ATS or DTT go with the six shooter dont even think of running heavy loads with the stock unit. The stock transmission's place a bigger load on the engines cooling system when pulling long grades at or near max GCWR when the transmissions torque is operating in fluid coupling mode (unlocked) not to mention the ill effects it has on the transmission oil. I just picked up my new 05 on 10/30 and went for the six speed due to the fact that one you've driven with a new modified trans (I have!) you'll never go back to a stock "slushbox" the price for one of these pretty new modified trans?6K plus with all the bells and whistles and installation. So at the end of all this I would recomend the 6 spd with out question!!!!.

05 3500 Laramie4X4 DRW 6 spd 4:10's 325/610 new.

just sold 99 3500 4X4 DRW ATS modified trans (everything they have to offer) edge guages,AFE,

transmission

Not to mention that a 6 speed upgrade is VERY cheap in comperison to a auto
