I have been so wrapped up in the oil wars here and CAD drawings lately I have not even been out of the house since Saturday night.

As some of you guys know, I had a kinda disappointing dyno day at only 404HP SAE. Ive been kinda scratching my head over what went wrong and tonight I had to go put some hands on the truck.

Started by adjusting my idle and then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

I replaced my fuel shut-of solenoid last year sometime and was in a big hurry to get to Houston for something and never adjusted it.

I decided that it may not have been fully elevating the lever. I was right the dern thing was not pulling the lever up to required height. I messed with it getting it adjusted and went for a test drive. I can tell the lever was a part of the trouble I had at the higher rpm band. Some of the top end is stronger. Must have had a full power fuel starvation.

Its not 100 percent yet, but its getting better.

Timing is gonna get checked next.

Does anyone have a good set-up or ideas on a compression tester? I want so bad for the rings to be worn I cant stand it. Cause if the rings are worn... I can get a new shortblock and the wife wont veto it. :D

Is 400 pounds of compression 'bout right for the engine?

Don~

Hot Damn

Geeze Don if you could squeeze a short block past the wife with low compression you get my vote for President for the "He Man's Club of America". I barely talked mine into moving up from a 92 to my 95!!!!!! That's what I get for explaining the workings of my offshore boat to her while we were dating. Any time it was out of service for engine work she would ask questions... ... ... . I should have seen it coming... DDDDDOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Not sure, but I think it could probibally be done through the injector hole??

If you really want the new engine, I'd do it to a cold engine, with the dirtiest air filter I could find. :D:p

Good luck.

Eric

Hey Don the last time I did a compression check on my truck it was 460#, better yet do a leak down test it will tell you more. The first leak down I did it was between 4% and 12% but after I had the head off and freshened up the valve job it is now 4% to 6%.

Snap-on make a special gauge and adaptor for doing compression on our great motors. The compression test is done through the injector holes. I agree with Blair along with the compression test i would do a leak down test.

Yahoo, you found some of that AWOL power. Glad to hear there is a good explanation for the loss, we were all feeling bad for you when the #s were down on your run and I have been anxiously waiting to hear what the problem was. Good luck on your search for the rest of it.

John
