I recently was jump starting a friend's truck whose batteries went dead in the cold. He crossed the jumper cables and arked the crap out of my driver's side positive battery cable, the contact is poor now and I think my truck got screwed up somehow. The battery was bubbling really loud and smoking a bit. There was a red wire the got arked right off the terminal, apparently the truck won't run for long without it, so I used some wire and wrapped it back around the battery terminal to get the truck home. I attached another end to the wire that got arked and tried to tighten the positive battery wire to the battery post, but it won't tighten up enough to make good contact anymore. So now I am sure I need new battery and positive battery cable, but I am wondering if there is something wrong with the truck now!

I scanned the truck with smarty soon as I got home and got a P1698 code that says this:

P1698 - NO CCD/J1850 MESSAGE FROM TCM/PCM

Now does this mean my computer is screwed or the TCM/PCM is not getting enough voltage or something? The truck runs fine when you start it up, but after 20 seconds to a minute it loses itself and slowly stumbles worse and worse until the truck's RPM's slow down enough for it to die. Soon as you hit the throttle it stumbles a cuts out, but if you blip the throttle you can at least drive a short distance. After the truck dies, you can wait a minute and it fires right up like nothing happened for another 10 to 20 seconds.

You may try unplugging the Edge Comp data connector, clear the codes and see what happens. I had an Edge EZ do the same thing. At first it was somewhat intermittent, later the truck would throttle up like I mashed the pedal to the floor and set the same code every time. I fought this for over a year (never suspected the EZ). Cleaned and lubed all connectors (PCM, ECM, VP44) and replaced the VP44 (was the only thing left that could cause this code right?). Ultimately, sent the EZ back to edge and they fixed it for no charge. Wish I would have thought about it possibly causing the problem to begin with.

Well, I will check it out. I just phone my mechanic and he figures that my fuel has gelled up, so I will look into it tomorrow, I am fed up with it right now, plus it is dark now, and I don't feel like monkey wrenching in the cold anymore. 4x4 quit working too now, so the truck is useless in the snow, I am stuck in my own driveway.

sounds alot like mine a few days ago, ended up being ecu, started right up but than it would stumble, no power and alot of other weird things electrical. New ecu runs great

Try cleaning the connection at the ecm. And the connection at the edge box. The four wheel drive is vacuum activated so maybe a hose has came loose under the hood.
