I hardly have any miles on my '04. 5 and have just about had it. I had a MAJOR oil leak at 90 miles, which was an o ring on the back of the block that required the transmission to have to come out to repair it. Now at 9,400 miles, the head gasket took a dump. The tech, said this is becoming a common problem among 600 series engines! :p

Did anyone else get the recall notice recommending the switch to synthetic glow plug fluid? They took care of it for me while they were changing both my upper and lower head gaskets under warranty. :)

Yeah, I was told in a truck stop that DC began replacing those lower head gaskets under warranty right after the news was announced that Ford owns Cummings.

UR DA MAN crobertson!!!!!!!!!! :-laf

Just for that cr, you best take a look under your rig in the morning, strange things sometimes happen to people that do what you just did!! :-laf

Well, this is fun!

The reason I did this is because of a little problem I really am having. The driver's door will not unlock. To the dealer she goes. I took the door panel off yesterday, but I think the actuator is bad. That's beyond my capabilities. Plus, it'll be free at the dealer if my warranty is still intact.

On the other hand, I had better check the lower head gasket. I forgot about that one. :p

Ok... I'll let you guys in on a little secret of mine. I have had my truck set up like this for awhile--it makes for some awesome 1/4 mile times. I welded little propellors to my driveshaft. Really gives the truck a kick from about 20 to 100!

Not bad for a "trailer queen" :-laf

I don't even know what to say. Do you mean that it's a trailer queen because it's usually towing a trailer or because it's like new?

How's that front fender anyway? :p

rrausch, photos please.

Sorry, crobertson... I can't do photos, somebody might rip off my invention! But those little props all spinning as the driveshaft turns really pushes the old truck along from all the thrust they develop. It helps if they're chrome plated too.

Oops... I just noticed it's actually April 2nd and not April Fools Day anymore. Darn... sorry. ;)

I had to have the head gasket replaced on the left cylinder bank. They did it under warranty. While they were at it, I had them replace the right back gasket too, just in case. At least my glow plugs haven't failed ... yet. I guess this is what I get for getting one of those Ford CTD motors.

The latest issue I'm having with my POS is what the dealer has termed as a "No-Boost Response" Basically I go to move out onto the open highway, and the truck starts building boost like usual. Then all of a sudden it's like the thing ran out of breath and theres no pedal, the truck is still going and the motors running, but will not pull my 12K trailer onto the freeway. This has happened three times already while towing heavy. Truck runs great empty, but has this boost issue when asked to actually do some work. I took the truck in last week for my concern, it's been there since last monday. The Service writer called today to tell me that there is a Soot! build-up inside the variable geometry turbo housing, they have ordered me a new pedestal and housing, but have the work on hold because the tech thinks my 8 1/2" turndown tip may have caused an "overboost" scenario, making the vanes inside the turbo housing stick, a "Cummings" rep has been called to come in tomorrow and make a call if warrantable or not.
