How can I get rid of my dpf on my 07.5

Maybe it is just me, but I wanted to hear what my fellow Dodge fans had to say.

Today, when I took my step-son to school this morning the overhead said "catalyst full". It went from 80% to 100% just by turning the ignition off and on.

I called the dealer as I just also received the G30 notice, but I really didn't think I needed to rush as I have followed the recall here since it was announced.

The salesman told me that the dealership would clear the code, but I needed to drive the truck for 60 miles after they cleared the notice.

Now I don't know how others feel, but you know, this truck had a list price for over 52k. I bought the truck for it's dependability following. My previous truck was a GMC diesel, and never gave me a problem. I figure if this problem is going to be a constant error, catalyst full, and I needed to make a trip to the dealer each time, and then drive 60 miles costing about $20. 00, then maybe the DC needs this truck more than I. I never would have purchased this truck if I knew I would be faced with this cost and trouble.

I guess I am curious how the others feel. I mean it is a lot of trouble and concern to worry about the truck leaving me somewhere, missing work, and spending extra fuel cost and time for this problem. Should I make D/C buy this truck back now rather than later so the adjustment cost won't be high? I have only owned this truck a couple of months, it has a little over 2000 miles.

What are your thoughts?

Steve

The G30 recall pays the tech to do the 50 odd mile test drive. (I know thats NO help, but they do pay for it) Unless three strikes for the same issue you have no lemon llaw. I think the RECALL addresses some of the issue your have now. I get it done asap.

Feel like I am losing my best friend

Thanks guys. It just seems so wrong that I have been alive 50+ years, owned some great vechicles in my time, and now the last truck I think I will buy, is this.

I don't blame the dealer, they didn't build it, but given the cost and trouble, it just doen't seem right that I spend say 50k and have a vechicle that I can't depend on, and need more time at the dealer that buyers do. I remember the days when $3000 would buy me a nice vechile, new.

We have lots of ice right now (Oklahoma), not to mention my wife just had major surgery (girl kind), and I can't even depend on this expensive vehicle in my driveway to help my wife if she needed me to. I feel let down some how, as if I made a huge mistake in judgement.

I'll be at the dealer in the morning after I drop my step son off, hopefully DC has a complete fix for this problem by then or I will have to give it back. I just can't have something I can't depend on, and will cost me extra that I did not bargain for.

Thanks for listening.

Steve

do you drive around town for the most part?

i'd take it out on the road and open it up,i'm certain you'll clean out the dpf in short order.

good luck

RDH,

I do. I bought the truck for the room and features. We plan on moving to the farm in the next year, so we made the investment. I am so disapointed DC would put a 2010 truck out there that isn't even 2007 ready.

Thanks,

Steve

Don't see the need to drive the trucks on the high way my regeans when ever it wants. At 11 mpg the thing should have a house with it. My 04 with a car on a trailer would get 15 around town and my new truck can only get that on the highway empty. I have been thinking the same thing as you on getting rid of my truck. My 04 5. 9 was a great truck and this new one is nothing but problems. Mine even has this thing where it strats up and just runs horriable and when floored wont rev past 1600 rpm. Dealer can't find problem as it is intermitent and only done it 6 times in the 3800 miles ive owned it. never done it for the dealer and the light never comes on. forget trying to drive it, it can't get out of its own way. the only answer I have figured out is shut it off and stratup till it runs good. You know right from the engine turning over and running that is runs bad. It rolls over into running at 700 rpm instead of jumping up in rpm and lowering down. I haven't taken it in for the flash yet thats on monday. Im getting fed up with it I need it to plow when it snows and will have big problems if i can't. let alone not having a truck to drive. I bought this for a daily driver as I don't like and can't drive my 550 whp mustang all over the place or on wet roads. I just can't find a new 5. 9 that I want let alone there really hard to find

fuel

My input may not be much help since I have not had any real issues at over 7500 miles. I would be very careful where you get your fuel from 90% of the stations around here still only sell LSD fuel and if you run that in your truck it will clog up the DPF and the dealer more than likely will not cover it under warranty.

Thanks Jeep. I have tried very hard to make sure and use the proper diesel. Here at home I buy the same diesel that the Dodge uses (next door). It is also labeled as ULSD.

I did after I dropped my step son off at church this evening take my truck for a 10 mile drive. The console cleared itself and reported "ok" and returned back to the compass display.

Thanks,

Steve

my two cents is get back to the chevrolet before you get many miles on it. I've had an 06 DC for a year, had nothing but trouble and i guess i'm married to the thing. can't get rid of it now. 137k on it.

I believe it is the smaller DPF they use on the reg trucks, that is the reason for a lot of problems. Mine is the C&C and my MPG is 16 Hwy (poor next to my 04. 5 at 20) but I've had no problems with it and there are no TSB's that I'm aware of. The truck is loaded with my B&W Elite series bed and tools at about 10K GVW at 16 MPG so yes it is poor but the 05 D/A I had to drive for my old company which is about same weight got 12, and that was with no emissions. Look at the other sites for they are also having a lot more issues than ours IMO. D/C needs to step up to the plate on the DPF problem and I believe they will change the size of the DPF when they do. Sorry your having issues with yours, there's always is one bad apple in every barrel. Just keep all records incase you lemon law it, want to trade strait across for my 04. 5?

RVTRKN,

Thanks for the offer. If I have to get another, I will try and get at lease what I know worked for me, GMC D/A.

Steve

It's disappointing to see that some CTD owners are having trouble with their trucks. I wonder what percentage of owners are having difficulties?

Naturally, zero defects and totally happy customers should be D. C. 's objective.

Though I'm worried that my '07. 5 CTD may yet give me problems, I've got about 3500 miles and no codes. Mileage has been OK at 15-16 MPG.

Are there any happy 6. 7 customers out there??

sop,

You have a 06 but claim nothing but trouble. Yet you have 137k miles on it. That is a lot of driving for a truck that had no trouble let alone a truck that has had "nothing but trouble". What trouble have you had?

Ulsd

I thought it was government mandated that they sell ultra low sulfer not an option Correct me if im wrong

I may be wrong but as I understand it the heavy trucks have to run ULSD

that is the reason I think is why the stations are near the interstates.

and 2010 is when it becomes a law for all stations to have only ULSD

also most of the country is adapting to CA emission laws.

I drove 6 miles last night to get to the station that sells ULSD in my area

when we have 5 stations with in 1 miles from my house and only two of them sell Diesel fuel. If I go to a 5 mile range there are about 15 stations to choose from and the majority sell Diesel fuel and 1 more is added with ULSD

that is a total of 2 stations out of 15 that have ULSD it is very frustrating

there was someone running for congress here the other day across the street from my house I am thinking to see if they can submit a bill to make a law to put a sign on the stations to tell which diesel they sell. One of my employees told me he saw a large sign in front of a station the other day that said we sell ULSD fuel it sure is a real pain when getting into tight parking lots with a trailer and finding the wrong type of fuel i have her email address and I think she is going to win since the person she is running against in the past 15 years has only submitted one bill to change the name of a post office. Got to love where our tax dollars go emissions and saving energy were high on here list one of the topics was solar energy and that BP is based out of MD with the solar dept and we can not get solar power from them in the state of MD since the sate of MD has no kick backs for them. Nice!

Steve, I have read this thread, and do understand your concerns. I have been left on the side of the road, by Ford Diesel pickups, 6x in the past 4 years... More than all my years of driving. I too am in the 50 year old range - and reliability is key.

However - before you convince yourself this truck is not worth keeping, consider;

1. It did not leave you on the side of the road.

2. New Technology can have issues. I hesitated before going with the 6. 7l, although towing with this truck is a great experience.

3. I had 2 codes, 1 reflash, 1 G30 recall done. Since the recall - all is good to date, and I have 7200 miles on this truck.

4. Having Dodge 'take it back" at the first issue is possible, if you are willing to part with a large sum of cash... . I have been down the Lemon Law route with Ford, and it will have to fail for 3x, or have 30 days in the shop before you have a case. But google Lemon Law, pick a lawyer in your state, and check it out for yourself.

Good Luck - I emphasize with your frustration.

Luke

I have had several 5. 9 12 valve cummins with no problems at all. All of them were straight piped and I almost felt guilty the mileage was so good 18 - 19 in town. My last drive around truck was an 04 duramax absolutely fabulous truck no problems at all . . I'm missing the comfort, dependability, an mileage 21. 5 highway. I now drive a 6. 7 ... Why did I switch? Well @ 92k my chevy was starting to show signs of wearing outand I had the dealership purchasing it for cash. BTW I Love cash. I am very hopeful that I can get this thing to run like I want it to. I have 11k on it and have already had the dealer perform 4 free oil changes on it and erase check engine light several times ,scan several times and flash program several times... ... I am not happy ... yet..... but I am hopeful.
