I just received my GDP MK-2 kit and was inspecting the various components. I have read several posts that advise that a fuel pressure gauge is necessary.

Is it?, on a 2006 HPCR with a CP3 pump?? That is question #1.

If a gauge is required, why couldn't I just drill and 1/8 pipe tap the top center area of the filter mounting base and install my sending unit in this location ?? I understand that a hole would also be required in the bracket and red appearance plate. Who cares if this sending unit location works?? That is question #2.

Chuck

Greetings Chuck.

You should have received a 'T' tap with your kit for installing a F/P line. If you are not certain about adding a gauge, you could install the 'T' and plug it, or wait to install it when you install a gauge at a later date.

You can get a billet cap from Genos, it has a tap on the top for a F/P gauge.

I installed my F/P gauge connection with the 'T' tap on the output side of the 2micron filter going to the CP3. I then ran the F/P line to an isolator. There are lots of ways you can do the F/P plumbing, whatever works for you. I am planning to install the Walbro pump at a later date so I already have the billet cap on my filter canister but I preferred not to use the tap on the lid. I got the lid to handle the future pressure of the Walbro.

Question 1. I think it is necessary. The pump is working marginally harder to push the fuel through the new filter,IMO. You don't have any experience to tell you when the new filters need to be changed. In other words there is no mileage in any manual for a change schedule. How do you know when to change them? IMO if you were going to add one gauge to these trucks it would be a lift pump FP gauge even if the truck did not have an extra filter. While I am waiting for my gauge I have an industrial gauge plumbed with polyflo and duct taped to the outside of my winsheild.

Question2. I just used the tap supplied with the kit but see no reason why you could not tap into the outlet of the GDP filter housing. But that depends on where you mount it. Mine would have clearance under the intake if the fitting was at least a 45. I would just worry about the hose making the bend. My other concern with the install is the amount of vibration from a deisel. I made sure my hoses were secured with cable ties with another section of larger hose wrapped around the fuel hose where it touched anything else to prevent wear.

Thanks Guys for your input.

I am wondering if GDP stopped including the "T" tap as my kit didnot include one. It always seems that the suppliers of these aftermarket parts and kits "reduce content" to improve their profits.

This method is also used by Chrysler, Ford , and GM to make us think they do not raise their prices from year to year. Ha Ha Ha!

I guess I will have to see if Geno's has a "T" fitting. It will probably be another $20, the typical price charged for a $2 item.

Thanks again,

Chuck

I bought my kit end of Dec and it was included. May want to drop Rich a line and see what happened.

I don't think you get the Tee for the presure gauge unless you get the big line kit too. I just installed mine and agree with what other have said, you wnat to know what's going on. My gauge is installed between the output of the filter and the CP3. 9. 5 pounds at idle and 5 at WOT.

If you have the small line kit you should be able to put a brass tee at the filter housing. Check the brass section at your local hardware store.

I had a heck of a time getting the fitting tight that goes in the bottom of the stock filter housing because of the two tabs that locate the OEM line. Any tips?

Yeah, sorry if I misled you about the 'T'. I got the big line kit, so it may be that's why I got the 'T'. Most all hardware and auto parts stores have brass 'T's, that's an easy remedy.

I think that a guage is a good idea because if you have a lift pump problem you will see it right away.

And that is exactly what I did to my 2 micron filter is tap the center of the housing. It works good, and I like it better that splicing the Tee fitting in the line because it eliminates 2 more connections.

Thanks for the input guys. I also bought the big line kit, but it did not include the "T" fitting. I will contact GDP to see if this was an oversight or not. I'll letyou guys know how I fare.

Thanks,

Chuck

One more option that I was going to do but didn't have the time to wait for the part was to use an -6 AN Male to -6AN Female pressure adapter here about 1/2 way down the page. It puts the gauge point firmly attached to the filter housing. I just couldn't bring myself to drill and tap the top of the housing.
