DETROIT — General Motors has now released details on the heavy-duty versions of its 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, noting that the two trucks will be offered with different interiors, luxury models and enhanced powertrains, including a choice of gasoline or diesel engines. For the first time, the Z71 off-road suspension is optional and includes additional chassis and suspension equipment, including skid plates.

The trucks are expected to hit showrooms early next year.

A new Gen-IV 6. 0-liter gas V8 engine with variable valve timing and an enhanced, more powerful version of the Duramax 6. 6-liter turbodiesel are the engine choices for the Silverado and Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD models. The gas engine is linked by a new Hydra-matic six-speed automatic transmission. Duramax-powered trucks get a six-speed Allison 1000 automatic transmission.

The 6. 0-liter V8 is rated at an estimated 312 horsepower and 373 pound-feet of torque. The 6. 6-liter turbodiesel is rated at 365 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque.

The Silverado is available in WT, LT and LTZ versions, while the Sierra is available in WT, SLE and SLT trim. The range of configurations includes three cab styles, three cargo box styles and five wheelbase lengths. GM said the trucks feature more distinct brand differentiations than any previous generation, including new grilles, headlamps, hoods and front fenders.

The two trucks feature an optional cargo-management system in the box, and a range of dealer-ordered accessories, including a sliding diamond-plate toolbox, a sliding bed divider, diamond-plate side-storage boxes and a bicycle mount.

Both trucks get new seat construction, including a stadium-style rear seat with a 60/40 split design that folds up, and under-seat storage systems. Premium interiors are standard on the uplevel Silverado LTZ and Sierra SLT and include power-adjustable heated bucket seats, leather-surface seats, leather-covered steering wheel and chrome trim.

What this means to you: GM covers the waterfront with the heavy-duty versions of its new pickups, giving the nod to off-roaders and luxury seekers alike.

First, an ugly ford. Now an ugly Chevy. Wow, I wasn't to thrilled about the the way the latest Dodge's looked, but now my opinion about the Dodge has changed... looking better everyday!

I didn't know that trucks could get the mumps!

In my opinion, that new Chevy is uglier than the 1st generation Avalanche or the current Titan.

Yeah, the Dodge sure looks good now after seeing that ugly thing.

Is it my imagination or did Ford and GMC use the same design team and engineer's. Maybe rumors of a future merger is true and already started. :D Need a new name for the merged company, like "Fugly" or G. M. F (greatest motor freaks).

:{ That thing is hideous! It looks like it has the same thing the elephant man had. One more exhibit in the failures of Rick Wagner museum. Quite possibly the largest museum in the world. :-laf

The corners of the bumper certainly are... HUGE, FREAKIN' HUGE! Looks like they're just askin' to get banged into.

Well, at least they were a little cleaner with GMC's bumper...

My complaint is, the low-beam headlights (I'm assuming they're the top ones) line up with the friggin door handles. The forward throw must be awful. Ford's new front may look fiunky, but at least the headlights are at the bottom of that cluster, closer to the road.

Those trucks ard so ugly their pictures will be in the next edition of Websters Dictionary under ugly. It appears the Chevy still has those sill looking little 215 tires too.

The GMC front bumper definitely helps. that chevy bumper has to go. Dont like the single wheel at all. I think i may be able to live with a GMC dually though. Overall, I think they took a step backwards as did Ford with the front end. Definitely agree the dodge is the best looking of all of them. Wow what a difference15 years makes. First dodge we bought was the first gen. We used to get comments all the time about how it may run great but man is it ugly. LOL

This is one thing that the Ford and Dodge guys agree on. One the Ford forums, no one likes the look of the new GM's. There are mixed views on the look of the new SD.

I can't believe how outright stupid GM is with styling. We already know now... even before you can buy the new Chevy, that they will change that bumper for the following year if not midstream.

The GMC looks OK but the Chevy and Ford are just butt ugly! I'll wager a guess that the '07 Rams will sell quite nicely up against that.

Loyalty to auto companies. No more for me. I buy whatever brand makes what is right for me. I've gone through stages. I'm done with brand loyalty. For me, it's plain stupid. Who cares what my father drove. What the hell does that have to do with anything? He can drive what he likes. I don't tell him what to buy. My sister drives a Ford, brother a Chevy, other brother a Dodge, mom a Toyota. We get what we like and don't ask each other if it's ok.

If I was stone Chevy loyal, after seeing the new style I think I would start riding my bike to work.

That thing is ulgy, but what I can't understand is why the big 3 are playing a horsepower war with diesels? Why not a torque war? I see bigger improvments in the horsepower area then I do the torque area. When will these guys figure out that torque is where it's at with these trucks? I would rather have something like the ISC with 300hp and 860ft/trq!! Oo.

I'd rather see a load rating / fuel economy war myself. Getting there a little slower is a lot better than not getting there at all.
