Here I am

Going Walbro...

Thanks, TDR Staff

I was catapulted by a DTT

Mr. Bob's Hoses?

Finally decided between the Walbro 392 and the FASS. Now, which set up should I go with. I notice they now have a 2 micron F/W separator combo. Should I go that route and use thier stock filter housing eliminator. Or just run from the 392 to the stock fuel filter and then to the remote 2 micron and big line to the cp3?

I know if I bypass the stock unit I will lose the fuel heater and "water in fuel" sensor. Even though I have owned 3 of these trucks and never seen the sensor go off.

The truck is an '04. 5 auto so I will have to mount the single remote MK-2 somewhere under the drivers side inner frame. Damn throttle linkage cover!

Thanks for any help.

I mounted my filter next to the apps. I post pictures when I get a chance. I used the stock filter for a pre filter/water seperator.

Don't you need a filter or an in-line strainer between the tank and the pump for the Walbro/Glacier setup?

GDP recommends one to prevent inlet screen clogging due to the pump being so strong.

I am going to use the stock filter when I do this. I'm dropping my tank tank this week to install a fuel pickup for an Espar D5 and I will also do the vent kit and put in an additional fuel pickup for a walbro in the future. I have the secondary fuel filter mounted already and it looks like this:

ON EDIT: Sorry I did not realize you had the big APPS cover til I reread your post. My setup won't work for you.

here ya go, some pictures of my 2 micron filter locate on the 03 auto with the apps. as you can see it has 8000 miles on it since install (odometer/filter markings) no problems. fuel goes through stock filter, then regulator and then 2 micron filter to cp3.

Oops there is a extra picture in there for my pressure block vibration isolator ;) I shook the last sending unit to an early retirement!

(the picture is a clicky)

Looks good. Did you fab the custom bracket for the 2 micron filter and is the isolator attached to it? Looks like a tight squeeze to get the filter off.

the filter head and bracket that it is attached to are from gdp. the other part I made and that is what the regulator is attached to. the filter is not hard to remove. just have to push the upper hose forward to remove the filter. better than under the truck or in the wheel well and I like it up in front its well protected.

You won't regret it. I put the Wallbro on my wife's 03 about a month ago. GDP put together a nicely done kit - top notch customer service.

When the current (fifth) lift pump dies in my 01, I'll put a Wallbro in it as well.

For my wife's truck, it is fine, but I would not mount the fass system to the frame rail on my truck. I go places... ;)

my plan is reverse of what you are planning. . when i install my walbro, it will come off a new pickup i am going to install [once i have it built and find some time:rolleyes:] and the stock lines will remain in place, and eventually when i get an espar, it will feed off the stock fuel pickup line. .

On your 04 do you still have the filter mounted lift pump? If so why put in another fuel pickup at all? Some check valves should do the trick for you.

yep, filter mounted still... i am planning on running a pretty fine prefilter [10µ spinon] and i want larger lines to try and limit cavitation on the pump. . and i am a big fan of making things overkill [am planning on a -10 or -12 pickup, and at the same time will do the fuel tank vent thing. . ]

nickleinonen,

You might want into checking the draw capability of the Espar. The fuel line they gave me w/ my Espar install kit that went back to the tank was very small. That Plastic line had maybe only had a 1/16th" inside diameter run as a fuel supply line from the tank to the heater.

You wouldn't want to make another bracket would ya? :D

maybe if i get the time. It's tax time and the fact I cant get anything done at work except shovel snow and scrape ice. work is starting to get backed up. and well I HAVE TO GO SNOWMOBILING! They drag me out every weekend!
