Well on Jan 6th I demolished my pickup in a major roll over. Thankfully I dont remember the accident. I am now going to be driving my old Ferd until I can afford to buy anoyher cummins. I will have to wait until prices come back down to a reasonable level. I was moving to SC so I had my trailer with everything I owned on boared.

The cab is crushed down against the back of the the seats, the rear of the cab is pushed out into the bed, the back seat is missing, the bed is looking like it already went through the scrap crusher, the rearend looks fine except for the fact that it is no longer connected to the truck, the frame is now "custom". Since the brakes quit when the rearend was ripped out,I had to stop the truck by sliding my head on the pavement while the truck was rolled on to the drivers side. Keep this method in mind for emergencies because it does work in a pinch. :-laf I was driving but for some reason I used the right side of my head for a brake instead of the left side. Probably not the most effective use of hair and scalp, but hey,you cant argue with results. The trailer is completely gone.

God kept me and my passenger safe. The injuries arent anything I cant heal up from. Even my dog survived. I also get to use the excuse "yeah but I've had a brain injury" for a little while.

I probably wont renew my membership until I have another cummins, hopfully sooner then later, but who knows. Adios

Kevin

PS check your insurance and make sure you really have the coverage that you think you do. I thought I had medical coverage (I thought wrong), I thought I had coverage on my trailer with my "full" coverage truck insurance

(wrong again), I thought I had good insurance from a good company (wrong wrong wrong wrong ). My fault for not checking up on what I thought I was paying for. Now you have no excuse. :p

Wow! It's good to see that you came out of it well enough to post about it, and that it sounds like you won't have any permanent injuries from it. That really sucks about the insurance though. Hopefully you were able to recover some of your possessions.

What caused the accident?

Mike

I'm so sorry to hear that. The important fact is that everyone is/will be ok. Nothing's more important than that. You and everyone else involved are very lucky to survive what sounds as a horrific accident.
Get well, be safe, enjoy every day.

That accident sounds pretty rough! You described a major amount of violence done to a fairly well-built vehicle. Was the injury to your head limited to hair and scalp and skin; no cracked skull ? Be wary of subdural hematomas, ( brain bruises; and I know I butchered the spelling). They seem capable of lurking for awhile afterwards just waiting to cause unexpected trouble.

What caused the accident?

Would you mind sharing some details about your insurance? The coverages you had, the company you used, and what they ended up denying and why?

I am always positive my insurance will screw me if I ever really need it. They always have loopholes to wiggle out when it comes to trailers, campers, cargo, theft, break-ins, medical costs, etc. Basically everything you thought you were covered for.

You end up asking "So if nothing is covered, what the hell have I been paying for all this time?!! And why didn't YOU, Mr. Insurance Salesman, my Good Neighbor with the Good Hands deep in my pockets every month and a stupid pet gecko, TELL me what you really sold me before I had to find out the hard way?!!" Insurance companies are like lawyers: You never really know how good or bad yours is until it is too late. A total crap shoot.

Best wishes on speedy recoveries for you and your passenger (apparently no other vehicle involved?). Keep your Winnemucca connections, there are some very rust-free used trucks in that area when you are ready to replace the Dodge. I spent a week in the desert 30 miles from there last summer. We had fun, and it was definitely different from Iowa.

I guess the town a mile befor the wreck everything was fine. The place I wrecked at though there was some black ice. I'm told I was the first of 6 wrecks within 20 minutes on that section of I40 in Texas. I really dont remember any of the actual evens though so this is all what people have told me.

I did have a cracked skull and a bleeding area on my brain but it is all cleared up now.

I don't know why insurance companies work this way but... for just a little more money you can increase your coverage. Ask for a meeting with your agent or speak to a human being from the company and go down line by line for an explanation or recommendation. I've got my house and vehicles with AAA and they've been very fair.

Wow! That whole roll cage thinghy really works! That was a bad one. Glad you are ok. Good luck finding another Cummins, and hurry back.

It looks like your head injury bled profusely, as they tend to do. How much help were the seatbelts and air bag, in your opinion?

I know the Dodge beds are very lightweight, but these photos show a big difference in cab strength vs. bed strength. I wonder how much is design and how much is materials. . ?

BTW: Where did you find your saddle blanket seat covers? Those look custom fit to the Dodge seats. It's a doggone shame to see your truck destroyed, it must have been pretty nice before this. But they made thousands of them, and only one each of you and your passenger... You will find another one.

I know what your dealing with to some extent, my head on was not of this magnatude as far as vehicle damage but i am a firm believer that at least for one night in my life i had a Guardian Angel riding shotgun on Jan. 10th (thanks Mom). So glad to see your up and able to function and yes they will always make more trucks but only one you!
Im dealing with head issues also from my headon hopefully we will get to the bottom soon enough and get things back on track... I can relate and if you ever need to talk ya know where to find me.
Wish you a speedy recovery and yeah using your noggin for a brake shoe isn't the best way to stop 1 ton of steel;)
Get well soon
Just hit me and well this is part of what im dealing with, not Jan. was Feb. 10th

I got these seat covers at my local autoparts store. They are made by Burns Saddlery. They ran about a 100 bucks I think.

The airbags never deployed. It was hit in the rear by another rig at some point but the front looks fairly good. I dont know if the airbags are supposed to deploy from a rear impact or not.

Dang, I know how bad that black ice can be. I was almost taken out by it on a bridge in MO with my boat in tow. Lesson learned... . Turn off the #@$^%! cruise control if there is any possability of black ice. Took me a day to clean out the cab and my shorts. Looking at your pics I had to sit and thank God again for letting me pull out of it.

Did you get to recover any of those nice parts you put in the engine?
