I just changed the fluid in my G-56 over to Gorilla Juice. I bought the truck recently with 135k miles on it and I'm pretty sure what came out was ATF. Very likely the factory fill. The drain plug had some filings on it, but I've seen worse pictures on these forums. I refilled with Gorilla Juice and now my shifting is extremely difficult until it warms up.

I live in the high desert and it gets cold and the colder it is, the worse it shifts. There are times it takes all my strength to pull it out of 1st gear and push it into 2nd gear. 2nd to 3rd isn't much better. Once I drive for 10 minutes, it has warmed up enough and shifts perfectly. Is there an additive I can put in to help with the cold shifting? It feels like I'm going to break something with the force it takes to shift.

When it's cold, put the transfer case in neutral, and the trans in 6th and let it turn for a minute or 2. This will circulate the fluid and warm it, and ease your cold shifts.

we tried it and found the same problem. we switched to a 50-50 blend of synthetic syncromesh sae50 transmission fluid and 5w-30 synthetic syncromesh transmission fluid. we did drain the gj out and blend 5w-30 syncromesh with it. and tried it. shifts a lot better but like our blend best.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up putting Redline MTL in and it shifts great now. Have to say that Gorilla Juice is just too thick for our transmissions in cold climates. I had about 400 miles on it and the shavings on the drain plug were as bad if not slightly worse than when I drained the ATF!!
