BOMB-friendly dealers?

KDP Jig

I got asked this question for the ump-teenth million time tonight by someone who was not very knowledgeable in BOMBing.

Pulled into the Flying J in Franklin KY (only 20 miles from my town & $. 25+ cheaper a gal. ) and there was a really nice Silver CC 3500 4x4 with a slide in and one of those little two horse tag-a-long trailers.

Well I pull in and turn around and back up to the motor home fuel island and proceed to call inside and have the pump turned on. Well the guy was eyeing my truck as soon as I pulled in to begin with. So no sooner than I get the nozzel in he walks over and the first thing he say's is "got a chip in it"

I think to myself "oh boy here we go" and proceed to tell him that no I didn't, was planning on a Torque plate but decided to start searching for a 97 CC like mine a couple of days ago. So we get to talking and he tells me about this 24 Valve he has that has a chip and a bigger turbo and how unstreetable this thing is. Said "you can't shift fast enough to keep the heat down" I was thinking of telling him he needed a bigger housing and exhaust but didn't think he would listen to a 19 year old. We talked for a few more minutes and I mentioned BMD and Briar's bad@$$ Dually and TDR. Turns out the guy was a prior member but just didn't have the time to keep up with it. He was from California but I never did ask his old TDR name.

Anyhow how many times has someone unknowledgeable come up to you and said "got a chip in it"

Just got told today about somebody with a '97 truck.

He wants to "chip it" to make it run, Muey Pronto, Very Fast.

I told a shop owner, it's a mechanical motor, it's gonna take a "plate" in the injection pump,, no electronics for more power.

I'll call Piers in the AM and see what I can do for him.

End of conversation.

Now, my 24V Not many people say,, "you have a chip in it" they say, What have you done to it,,? Then I say, a Box Injectors and a different turbo. (A nice way to sum up a couple of grand) :D

I was noticing a straight piped 24V pulling a looong gooseneck with some kind black poly pipe on it. It looked good and sounded even better with that load and manual transmission growling through the gears. He must have seen my gauges and while we were sitting at a red light had asked if I had a "box" on it. I said yeah, a Power Edge. He replied "a Comp?" He actually sounded like he knew what he was talking about. But then he said he had tried a Comp and it did'nt seem to give it much more power. A Comp box with no gauges and that big ol' trailer! By this time we were in 2nd or so gear yelling over the engines sort of holding up traffic. :D Who knows, maybe someone sold him a Comp without warning him about gauges. Maybe he had a defective box or bad pump wire connection. Don't know for sure, but he seemed like a nice enough fella.

When I took off, I let him know my box was working just fine. ;)

Suprised a Miata once and he asked what I'd done to it. "Not much, just a fueling box. " He looked like a monkey doing a math problem for a couple seconds. Than he said nice truck and the light turned green and race #4 was on.

19 here.

I've explained how fueling boxes work to my neighbor, owns a psd, a couple dozen times and he still doesnt get it, but after hearing his explanation of how a torque converter works (450 flywheel through TC =700 @rear wheels) I dont feel so bad. He did think my BHAF was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

I get asked about the chip thing more than I like. When I tell them I have a fueling box, they just look at me dumbfounded. Then I say "chip" and their eyes light up like they know what I'm talking about. Kinda funny.

I had a guy in a thumper skate ask me if I had a turbo, then he asked me how much boost I was pushing. I was only running an EZ and DDIIIs at the time and pushing 35 lbs. The guy looked like he was going to mess his pants. That much boost for him and he wouldn't have much of a head gasket left at all. :)

Around here it's always " IS that thang turned up?". I guess the smoke gives it away.

The other day my girlfriends son (18yr old) was riding with me and we got to talking cars and boost. He's bragging how his friends Honda does 15lbs of boost. I hten show him my boost guage and how fast it pegs 30lbs. Got into a long talk about diesels and even showed him JetPilots picture in Mopar magazine. :D He had no idea you could get that much horsepower out of a diesel.

Just turned 22 in Oct.

I also get the 'chip' thing. Anymore, I don't even bother explaining the difference between mechanical and electronically controlled engines. I just pop the hood and the first thing they do is drool over the BHAF with the shield.

Me: OK, since a diesel is basically an air pump, the less restriction coming in and going out will allow for better efficiency and less 'heat' created within the engine. Hence, big a$$ air filter and (step around side of truck) that big a$$ sewer pipe out the back there.

Them: Oh. So is it fast/powerful?

Me: :D

Got all of yall beat turned 18 on the 19th and workin on bombin the truck its not what i want it is the ca$h flow that slows the process. :D

Just turned 20 here. Young and don't believe in a "smoke- free environment. " ;) I smoked an older vette the yesterday. Figuratively and literally!

Get me crutch and listenin' horn...

Jist wanted to tell yee young fellers that this geezer (31) just raced a M3 from a dead stop a week ago or so. I was pulling out turning right onto a 4 lane (2 each direction). Young kid (18 or so) in an M3 (a couple years old), was making a Michigan left turn (which is, pass your turn - do a U-turn, go back to the place where you wanted to turn and turn right - stupid !@#$). I had been sitting there waiting on traffic to pull-out longer than he had. But he tried to jump out there before me. I didn't let him, I took the right lane, he yanked it in tight when he saw big blue comin' and got in the left lane. Then he gave it all she had to get in front of me to turn right. I proceeded to whomp down on mine. He pulled me a little when I shifted to 3rd, I pulled back even with him in 3rd. I hit forth and pulled past him. Then I quit accelerating to keep from running up into slower traffic. A girl in the back seat was laughing at him. I looked over at him when I went by, all he saw was this :D .

John,

This just means the younger guys are getting smarter about the truck they want. I got mine when I was 23. It didn't help that the computer industry was screaming at the time, so I could afford it.

I hear it all the time but it's, " Got a Banks Kit on that thing? It sure sounds good"... I just tell them that banks sux. and then give them a ride. Yea I'm a little older, than you younger guys (32). But I drive like I'm 17... ... ... ... :D
