Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Got a couple of codes, I think I know why

was working on my remote start to get it to work with the WTS light. At prior to working on it today there was no codes as of 2 days ago.



Today as part of the set up for the remote start u have to do three key on/off cycles, just like checking codes, ECM/PCU also ran their checks.



Came up with P1687 and E1693. Best as I remomber/can find E1693 is just a companion code so no problem.



P1687 looks like it has to do with a loss of comunication with the instrument cluster? SOund right so far?



While I was looking for the wire to tap for the WTS light, I had removed the cluster to look behind it. I'm guessing that this is the reason for the code, as everything works perfect in the cluster.

yep that happened to me once, when i had a crappy tap for my gauges, it fell out and pulled the fuse with it, same code.
