Well fellas, I happen to be driving by the local Dodge dealership on Thanksgiving day and what do I see but a midnight blue, 2001 six speed 4X4 just begging to be bought. So I went back the next day and traded in my 99 on the 01. I have been very pleased with the truck so far. Plenty of power, but I will be adding a little more anyway. If any other six speed owners have anything that I might need to watch out for or other great things about the truck I would like to hear them. My new EZ box should be here this weekend. Will it make as much of a difference as it did on my 99 auto?

Congrats, I to just went from the auto (2000 3500QC 4x4) to the 6 speed. A lot more fun to drive and heavy duty. I wanted the 6 speed from the beginning, glad I finally got it. You will be to.

Just remember, it is not a 7-speed. It is too easy to try and put it into R :mad: when you are pulling onto the interstate. You think you will never do this, but you eventually will :-{}

If you get into a hurry you can also try for reverse instead of 5th, been there done that. It usually happens if you're trying to haul butt.

Under the truck on the slave cylinder there is a roll pin that can back out allowing the pressure hose to disconnect causing loss of clutch action. Safety wire it in place so it can't come out.

If the door chime annoys you the steering wheel column can be removed to access a small wire plug that will disable the chime when the key is in the ignition.

That's all I can thing of right now.

Enjoy your new toy, these trucks rock.

Mike

P. S. I can't help with the EZ box question, mine's still stock. :)

Congrats on comin' over to the manual men side, where we all know how to shift for ourselves. :p

How many miles on your new truck? The reason I ask, is we have a 3-4 gear grind issue, when cold, or shifting really regaurdless. There is a TSB on it, and if under the 36,000 mile warrenty, the dealer will fix it. I wish I had mine done, but was unaware before I ran out of warrenty, dangit.

Other than that, have a blast in your new ride, I love mine! Auto's are for cars, and chicks! :D

Later, Rob

MANUALS RULE!!!!!

:D You have made a wonderful decision. Go for the COMP if you can from Edge. A set of 275's with that and the exhaust brake make it allot of fun. Oo. :D

Welcome to the land of three pettles at your feet. It is a lot of shifting around town but I am sure that you will love it . I have had mine for almost a year now and it is still a blast to drive, everywhere !

Auto's are for those with no left foot , Thomas

P. S. Some have had the gear grind like Rob Thomas pointed out, so use the TSB if yours does. Other than that no problems so far. Do a search on the oil that goes in it - lots of opinions ... ... ...

six speed

Got rid of my 2001 auto when the 0% finance thing happened last year and got the 2002 six speed that I should have bought in the first place and will never look back. :) :) :)

The EZ alone is a great kick in the pants for the ETH, don't go above that if you don't plan on a new clutch. If you need more than the EZ box alone, go with larger injectors and a larger turbo. The EZ box, step 3 injectors and HX40 combo made 366 RHWP. My daily driver now is the EZ with step 5 injectors, way more than enough and easy on the VP44.

Don't believe all you read! My 01. 5 HO slips the clutch real good with just an EZ. Take it easy on it or just go ahead and call Peter.

Me TOO

Had an 2001. 5 auto cause my wife might drive it. Well after a year she drove it once. That was it, I bought a 02 6 speed. Now I"m happy! As for the 6 speed I replaced the gear oil with red line MTL. Its designed for this type trans and does shift smoother.

Happy Shifting

Paul

i saw this post and got all excited and figured i could talk the wife into getting rid of my auto and getting a 5or 6 speed this is what insued:-{} :( i want a standard so bad i can taste it buying a auto was one of the worst mistakes of my life not exaggerating:(

AWE come on Ms. Catcracker--you want a happy man don't you?

The only thing an auto is better for is drag-racing... and you surely don't want your hubby out doing that.

GET A SIXer!!!

If you really want it to happen it can. I had a 2000 3500QC ETC auto 4x4 that I drove for a year and paid $25K for with 3X,XXX miles on it. I found a new 2002 3500RC ETH/DEE 4x4 that listed for $36K and I bought for $28,500. They gave me $23K for my trade and the insurance had already given me $2,800 for hail damage 6 months before so I made $800 on my 2000 and bought the new 6 speed for $3K under invoice :) Get out there and look hard you never know what you might find. I am now a happy man this is the Truck I alway wanted right down to the color :D

Great choice, I have never regreted purchasing my 6 speed. I strongly recomend the comp box over the EZ upgrading later always means more $. If you treat your clutch right it will last, mine is still holding strong with 80000 km @ 442 whp if you can believe that. I would recomend 80 hp inj - 100's alot more smoke for 20 hp, rv's not enough. Good luck enjoy.
