GM turbo diesel, any good?

gas vs diesel

Well, I am not proud of it but apparently, the base police here did'nt like the diesel dessert I gave them coming through the gate. It took the cop about a half an hour to write me up being a "Gross Polluter", and having a "Modified Exhaust".

They actually asked if the stack came on the truck, "stock". :-laf :-laf

After it was all said and done, and he gave me the hole don't shoot the messenger schpeal, I now have a court date on tuesday. Gotta love Base police... ... ...

HE HE SWEET!! i have been waiting for my ticket here on my base, i have some buddies who work the gates and since there is two lanes i always take the left one so poor buddy ol pal catches a nice little puff when i leave! :-laf

i actually raced a gasser dodge from the gate, literally!! i thought i was going to jail for sure that time!

i didn't know you could get such a ticket untill a buddy of mine got a warning about 2 months ago for "smoking" while accelerating... i guess it doesnt help he works for the local bosch dealer... . LOL. keep us informed on the outcome. .

Maybe they should give B52 and KC135 crews tickets also. At full throttle and water injection your truck would not even come close to a polluter.

I have an "in" right now at my court appearance. A couple of my friends had seen me pulled over this morning and the word spread like wild fire. Low and behold a friend of mine knows the judge... ... ... ..... :-laf

I think this will blow over without too much incident. ;)

This is funny as h@ll! (In the little picture in my head!) Tell me if this is accurate.

You are headed off base. You idle up to the gate station rollin on 35's with turned out stacks. You get the "OK" from the grunt at the gate after some smart arse B. S. You put your foot in it a little more than you thought and drill that enviro dewb with 6 inches of bull hauler stack and edge box, right in the face. He is P. O. ed and cries foul to the base cops. They chase you down and boooooow. You get punched.

I'm sorry but this is funny as hell in my little mind! Sorry you got drilled but darn that reads funny in my little mind!

I hope you win this one though. Get your truck emissioned tomorrow after you take the box off. Put a block under the fuel peddle or TPS sensor under the hood as to lower the low boost emissions. You should pass easily. If your have recent proof that you are within the EPA specs, you should kick arse in court.

Good Luck

Let me clear this up some, I was coming on to base, got the nod from the gate guard, Forgot I left the comp on 3x5, as soon as I took off I saw the shadow of the cloud on the ground, oops, smoked out BASE SECURITY. There were two cruisers parked right at the back gate talking to a semi-driver. I went to get some coffee and low and behold here comes the rent-a-cops, lights going, they pull me over and ask me if I knew why they pulled me over, I said "no". He said that this thing is a gross polluter, I said I have New York plates, he said you smoked us out pretty good back there, I said oh. Back and forth, back and forth, after they were done crawling around under my truck and 30 minutes later they let me go with the ticket mentioned above.

My comment to the cop might have been... "I appologise for smoking you out, but I think a boost hose clamp just let go".

And then challenge them to prove me wrong, either on the spot or in court.

I don't have traffic court until tuesday morning at 0800. I may end up putting a flat top 6" stack on my truck so the smoke goes straight up. California vehicle code states that exhaust must not exit the side of the vehicle between 2' and 11' from the ground. I just don't want to get hassled again.

So, I just got back from base traffic court. I walked in, saw a civilian LT base cop I know, and he asked, "why are you here?" as he grabbed my ticket, he said "gross polluter?" I said "???????" He said "it's a diesel" I said "you darn skippy it is!" When my name got called I went in and he told the judge "its taken care of", I said "have a good one". When I was leaving he gave me his phone number and said if I ever get another ticket on base call him and I won't have to worry about it. I guess its a good thing to know some people around this base. :-laf :-laf :-laf

You were right this is a good read. :-laf I need to get some connections like that on my base. luckily I do have the hook up with the rent-a-cops at the gate. :-laf

I can not see how that is even remotely correct. If it was there would be a HUGE amount of commercial motor vehicles getting cited each day in the problem scales(Barstow,Needles and Cajon Pass) as their stacks are turned out and some fit in that height range, especially rock, sand, oil, gas tankers and a few other who need lower stacks to fit through loading racks.....
