i just bought a 1996 ram 2500 ctd to replace my old one that was totalled(see my posts for pics) and it is waaaaaay slower than my old 96 with the 89 engine soooo, i need some info on how to turn up the p7100 i know how to rebuild a ve with my eyes closed but this one is wierd to me. so tell me how in detail. also i am looking for a used low stall converter if anyone has one.

Auto or Stick?

As usual the first thing to add is some gauges.

Then add a cam plate and governor spring kit. See how you like it and go from there. You could read about this for days on here.

Please provide your trans type and what your HP rating is on the engine data plate.

96 Auto:

3k Gov Springs

215 Injectors or 370's

Change DV's to 181's

#5 Fuel Plate

Boost Elbow

Be gentle until you replace the torque converter and valve body.

96 Standard Shift:

3k Gov springs

370 Injectors (you may already have the 215's)

You will probably have the 181 DV's

#10 Fuel Plate

Boost elbow

I too hate when that happens. You know one bad thing about forums and email is that it can be hard to say something and not sound rude or condescending. So I hope that my original response wasn't taken that way. :)

Not at all. I agree with the email and post deal, I guess that's the idea with throwing in a few smilies :D

The afc has a round cover on the injection pump, that is removed by using an allen wrench, 8mm if I recall correctly. With the engine off, and cover off, you then use a screwdriver and adjust the star wheel forward or back depending on what you are trying to achieve. Dont go too crazy on turning the wheel, you don't want to overdo it. I adjusted mine up a few after putting in the #5 TST plate. I have a little bit of smoke but not too much. Make sure you have a boost guage and exhaust temp guage.

I have the same truck...

If your transmission doesnt have too many miles on it, you can turn up the power, but ya gotta be careful unless ya have some $$ waitin on it. .

I wouldnt recommend messing with the star wheel until you get a set of gauges, boost and EGT minimum. Then, grind your stock plate to a half-moon shape, using the lowest point in the plate as the deepest section, but go about 1/16" deeper. (space the moon shape evenly top to bottom) You can flatten off the half-moon closest to the top of the plate for a little more fuel (#100 plate). Reinstall the plate about 1/8" further forward of the existing, scribe a mark where the original setpoint was. Then slide the whole top housing that covers the plate (AFC housing) almost all the way forward, minus 1/4". You can then use the starwheel to turn up or down the low end smoke. There is one screw out of the four that hold down the AFC housing that is different, this is a break-off screw. I used a chisel and a light touch with a hammer, and it backed right out. Put it right back in the same way, worked well. .

once you get a good TC installed, a mystery (lockup) switch is a great addition, almost makes it a stick.

if ya got any q's, I can splain further in a PM, feel free. .

good luck. .
