I have the same truck...
If your transmission doesnt have too many miles on it, you can turn up the power, but ya gotta be careful unless ya have some $$ waitin on it. .
I wouldnt recommend messing with the star wheel until you get a set of gauges, boost and EGT minimum. Then, grind your stock plate to a half-moon shape, using the lowest point in the plate as the deepest section, but go about 1/16" deeper. (space the moon shape evenly top to bottom) You can flatten off the half-moon closest to the top of the plate for a little more fuel (#100 plate). Reinstall the plate about 1/8" further forward of the existing, scribe a mark where the original setpoint was. Then slide the whole top housing that covers the plate (AFC housing) almost all the way forward, minus 1/4". You can then use the starwheel to turn up or down the low end smoke. There is one screw out of the four that hold down the AFC housing that is different, this is a break-off screw. I used a chisel and a light touch with a hammer, and it backed right out. Put it right back in the same way, worked well. .
once you get a good TC installed, a mystery (lockup) switch is a great addition, almost makes it a stick.
if ya got any q's, I can splain further in a PM, feel free. .
good luck. .
