Dealer has'nt been able to fix my truck for four months ,and finally got the ok to take it to cummins today.

Just had to tell someone the good news !

Carhauler, If anybody can fix it they can they worked on mine when I refused to let the dealer touch it. I did have to wait about a mounth to get paid back for the bill though, but it was worth it knowing my truck was fixed right.

Big D

Ok the only thing they found so far were some fault codes they are checking on.

368 fuel pump cannot reach commanded timing

211 vehicle electronic control module

146 coolant temperature sesor circuit

will post updates as soon as I get them

Thanks Jim

Mine needed to be reflashed last Feb. I would be showing 19mpg on the computer from Melbourne to West Palm Beach going down

and 14 cummin home. Same tank of fuel. They said the ECM was not talking to the VP44. Sometimes it would sometimes it would not. Its been running good every since, 17-19. 5 on the hyw at 72mph. Anything higher and it falls off to 16-17. Best fuel on the east coast is in NC. Can run forever on it. Florida fuel sucks!

Getting ready to buy a new lift pump and keep it under the rear seat. (57K on original)

Went to dyno shop at cummins ,and they still cannot figure it out.

Shop foreman says they have never seen this problem before

ie:intermittent cut out truck returns to idle. Fuel pressure checked out ok from inj pump and lift pump

Will post updated data tomorrow,Hope this will help someone else out there thats why I am posting all updates . Hope no one gets mad

Thanks Jim

Update on cummins reapir

Ok now cummins says that they found two pins on the plug for the vp44 that were not making contact. Also he informed me that there is a repair kit for this so i wonder if this is a problem or if this was caused by the tech at dodge who replaced the vp on my sled ?

This may help some of you out who have fuel boxes that plug in this way if they do plug in this way.

Any how on to the dyno tomorrow again after the wires are repaired. Will update then.

By the way the staff at Cummins of Baltimore is a fantastic bunch of guys who dont mind you calling three times a day, or going over what they have done as far as diagnostic procedures. And explaining what they find in detail. .

I have seen this one before... Truck will run good, but returns to idle sometimes. Try swapping an APPS witha friend, and see what happens. Also, check the ECM and VP44 connections. Corrosion can be a killer. A little dilectric grease will prevent that.

Smart move taking it to Cummins... Very few DC dealers acually know how to work on the Cummins, much less troubleshoot it.

Update

Ok problem was found today . Cummins pulled the front cover to fix the oil leak. They found the dealer who replaced the injection pump had boogered up the key way and the pump would not stay in time.

Question: Is there any way to get downtime and lost wages for the time I have been down scince the other dealer screwed my truck up and cummins had to fix it ? Chrysler says take it up with the dealer ,The service manager is a a%$. Any help on this appreciated

Thanks Jim

As I also live in Baltimore, What dealer are we talking about? Just don't want to make the mistake of either buying a new truck or getting service on my present truck, from this dealer.

Thats somewhat strange! Ive taken my truck to Schaefer & Strohminger in White Marsh several times. In fact thats where I bought it. I've never had a problem with their service. Could be that I've only had some minor problems aside from the lift pump issue ( that was taken care of quickly) and they were all fixed right the first time I took it in. Only exception was the trailer hitch recall. They inspected it and ordered me a new hitch. The quy I always deal with , Tom Fields, always plays it straight with me.

Sorry to hear that you had problems with them. I hope Cummins gets to the root of your current problem and gets you back on the road.

This might be a good time to talk to a good lawyer. With back-up from the Cummins shop you may have a good enough case to take the dealership to task for your losses. I'm definitely not one to advise litigation often, but when your livelyhood is at stake and the dealer's not coming clean - it may be the kind of situation that warrants it. Good luck.

Ok the keyway is in the front cover is on and its back to the dyno tomorrow. Hope this takes care of it I'm going broke.

wish me luck and thanks for all of the replys and support.

Ok the pump is fixed now they say that the fuel tank is starving the pump for fuel . .

Anyone heard of this one yet ?????

Nope cummins just called and asked me if my truck ever ran out of fuel at a 1/4 of a tank. And my answer was yes , So that is the problem. The cause is from using the pumps that the big rigs use , the transfer rate is too high for our trucks it damages the sending unit. I know this for a fact because a buddy who has a 94 had this problem not too long after he bought his truck and they are the only pumps he goes to.
