Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel Pump Mounting Bracket

After seeing all of the posts here about the capabilities of this Cummins Diesel, I took the plunge! With the help of Rip Rook (www.sourceautomotive. biz) here in the Northwest, my '01 2500 4x4 6spd is getting a major bomb job... SouthBend Con FE clutch, DDII injectors, Edge Comp box, Piers HX-40 turbo, 4" exhaust (Rip's custom deal!), AutoMeter Z series guages (pyro, boost and fuel pressure - stock look - white numbers, red needle), larger banjo bolts, PE fuel pump, and AFE funnel ram intake. Warning for the do-it-yourselfers out there. According to Rip, and others on this board, that 6spd transmission weighs over 400lbs! Bent the heck out of the platform on his transmission jack. I'm really glad I have Rip doing the work. A real professional, and a really nice person to work with. He's keeping me posted on progress through phone calls and email notes. I dropped by this evening to look at the progress he's making, and it's looking great! He had to weld a mounting plate by the fuel tank for the PE pump. Really clean job... painted the plate and the welds. . rubber mounts to isolate the noise... . and that PE pump is almost too nice to hide under the truck. Rip's prices are really reasonable as well.

It should be done in the next day or so... . I'll keep you all posted.

I'll say you took the plunge

with both feet hands and more!! You probably won't think your driving the same truck anymore when you get it back. You will have to see a plastic surgeon to remove the smile from your face!!

Good luck

Have fun

Friggin Sweet!

Going from 245 flywheel HP to +400 RWHP with no stepping stones in between!

With the wet weather around here... be careful!

I have had the rear end of my truck try to pass the front many times when climbing the Sylvan Hill! Kicking the rear end out on the onramp in 5th is way too easy!

With you and Rip running around, I better get off my but and get some more ponies under the hood!

Looks like I may have some competition! Six speed type that is. I won't race Rip :eek: :eek: :{

Holy cow!!!!! I guess you got the bug, you got it bad!

That truck is going to frighten you when you get it back. You are doubling the output, but it is gonna feel like triple +. LOL, enjoy.

Stopped by Rip's shop on the way home this evening. The "beast" should be done tomorrow. Everything looks great so far! Won't be able to hear it run until tomorrow though. Kind of a funny ... . the new South Bend clutch warns of slipping when new, needs to be "seated" and says to drive aggressively to help this seating process. New turbo says no full throttle for the first 50 miles for proper break-in. Damned if you do... . damned if you don't.....

Again... so far Rip has been great to work with. Takes WAY better care of my truck than his own!

I'll post more after the first drive!

I don't think the clutch needs seated ASAP,, take more care of that turbo,, if you ruin a clutch, you are $1K in the hole, if you ruin a turbo,, you could be out of a complete motor,,, "decisions"

"Aggressive driving" would be 2nd gear starts. . Peter says. . "Slip it, but don't put any heat into it"

Good Luck,, Let those horses run... .

to complete the makeover

I did much the same almost two years ago but mine´s an auto with training wheels :D:D You might want to consider beefing up the horn at the same time - the OEM factory sparrow fart units are pitiful. Grovers and Hadleys will complete the makeover. :D:D

A word of caution (been there, done that)- treat the go pedal with more respect the next time you're out in the truck, especially if the road conditions are slippery - otherwise, you might find your rear end trying to overtake your front end:--)

rrivelli, welcome to the dark side:) . You are going to be :D when you get your truck back. Enjoy your new truck because it wont resemble the 7000 lb beast it was when it went under the knife. I thought my truck lost like 4000lbs after the mods, the engine pulls the truck up to speed so fast it feels like its loafing along not even working now. Now you need a 4" remote exhaust brake to help slow that beast down.

Got the oil leak issue worked out... ... simple fix... see other post regarding fuel pump mounting plate..... again... Rip did a great job! No hassles, easy to work with, VERY reasonably priced... I could go on and on about RIP.....

As far as the truck... . we haven't had many dry days here in the NW since the mods were completed. What I can tell you so far is that the PE pump seems to be keeping fuel pressure right at 20psi. For those of you with lift pump issues, these come with a two year, no questions warranty... the best I found. Call or email Rip for details.

If I get on it with the ez comp box turned on, 5th gear, wet roads, about the time it hits 2krpm, the tires break loose. I'm waiting for a dry day to really test fuel pressure and performance. I am smiling alot... ... . with all the mods, it just feels like the Cummins was made to run this way... .

An interesting tidbit..... In removing the stock fuel pump, and it's mounting plate from the block, we noticed that it looked alot like a small block Chev fuel pump block-off plate would fit just fine in its place..... we ended up cutting the original mounting plate and using it. But for those of you that are removing the original fuel pump in favor of an aftermarket unit mounted elsewhere, this may be the clean way to seal that oil galley where the old mechanical pump used to fit. And yes, the oil galley is still there on the 24v engines too, even though they don't have a mechanical pump.
