Truck in dealer inventory

As stated in the topic, got the letter today. I have read about the issue on this site but have yet to have the problem  I bought my truck on May 27th... shouldn't they have already re-flashed the ECM? I would figure that a problem that came up a few months prior to when I bought the truck would have been taken care of on all vehicles on the lot. I'm not really complaining, just trying to figure out why I got the letter on a truck, which IMHO, should have been up-to-date and good to go.

The truck runs fine in every which way possible and no problems at all... Do I really have to drive 30 miles to a dealership and wait an hour to have them do this? I only say this because I am a very busy person with little time to spare. I feel like the wife just slaped a 2 page 'honey-do list' in my lap :( IS there anyway to check if it was already done and the letter is an error? Also, what happens if I don't take it in for this? I really don't have the time to spare in the next few weeks to do this... IF I would have gotten the letter 2 weeks ago I would have had some time... never gonna catch up *sigh*

I forgot to add... I'm sure this has been asked a million times... . Will a dealership fuss about boost and EGT gauges? I also have exhaust... . but I still have the stock system... anyone have trouble with dealers about exhaust?

The (cruise control) is not right for some,It sticks when leaving the free way when using the off ramp?I never had that problem

But when i went to the Dealer for low rear end oil fill, they jumped

in and did the re-flash without asking or anything else,If you look in my post, you will see my EX. not A word said and these guys were picky,They put A sticker on the radiator support bracket, for the relish if you go to the dealer for service for A oil change ect you will have done! I hope you don't loose power like I have!

andf other thing's. GWD:(

To answer some of the other ques...

Most of the st. . oops dealers will not do anything about gages/exhaust mods. That said, the only warranty issues would be a cracked manifold from the probe mount. More than likely you would be your own warranty station on it, as you will be for the exhaust mod. In all the time I've been here (TDR site), no one to my knowledge, has had a problem caused by the exhaust "conversion". So, you could still have a "bad" dealer that denies warranty for anything they want (including floor mats not being from "DC"). It gets ridiculous with them. Best thing I can say is get to know your diesel mech and treat the service persons with a few "munchies" (donuts usually works at mine). I usually treat with about 2 dz and it is "cheap" insurance in my book.

agn just my opinion worth about 0. 015$

I got the notice a few months back. My truck had been on the dealer's lot for 6+ months when I bought it in March so it likely never got the reflash. I've never experienced the problem the TSB warned of and have put 15k on the truck.

It was at the dealer yesterday (try 1. 5 days) for the reflash and the alternator bracket. Well, their reflash unit died and it never happened so I'll probably run it for a while longer till I can "afford" some downtime.

They never mentioned anything about my ex gage, ex brake, wheels, tires or anything else except "Nice looking truck"

Dealers don't install TSB's or recalls in trucks that are sitting in their inventory, they wait for us to buy them and then Dodge sends you the recall. Is'nt that a nice way to do business?

Grrrrrr. I figured as much... *sigh*. I guess I will take her in sometime early August. I will try and get to know the service guys a little while I am there ;)

Thanks for the replies guys :)

If you read some of the dealer recall notices, they almost always say something like (IMPORTANT: Some of the involved vehicles may be in dealer new vehicle inventory. Federal law requires you to stop sale and complete this recall service on these vehicles before retail delivery. Dealers should also consider this requirement to apply to used vehicle inventory and should perform this recall on vehicles in for service. Involved vehicles can be determined by determined by using the VIP inquiry process) in the body of the recall. Most dealers check for open recalls every time the vehicle comes in for service. But just like everything else in the world, some people are better at things than others.

cruise control recall

As a new member of TDR, I was just reading about some members asking about if they should have the cruise control re-flashed. I bought my 03 3500 6 speed in June 03. Got the notice of the recall some time later and had it done the first part of Dec. If I had it to do again, I would not do it. It affected the fuel gauge. Some times it works very slowly, but most of the time it never gets to where the fuel level actually is. I've had it back to the dealer several times, he can't fix it. Starr (Chrysler engineering) first said they would replace the inst. cluster, then changed their minds and said that there would be a new computer program out soon, just as soon as the EPA signed off on it. Still Don't have a working gauge. Got over 11000 miles on it now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Son's 98 had acouple of re-calls he let go for 5 years and 100K. Had a monor problem and had the recalls done then. No ?'s asked and not even his original dealer. I doubt there is a deadline for taking a truck in. Doc

There is NEVER a deadline for RECALLS. Dealers are SUPPOSE to do ALL that are in inventory. Some lazy BUTT didn't do his jonb and IF a accident happened to a owner after purchace and it was RECALL releated the DEALER would have his butt in a real sling.
