Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Got the full Banks kit, can I do injectors as well?

My father has the full Banks kit on his 01'. He likes the power but now wants more, and is now looking at injectors. Is it possible to keep the Banks on and add injectors, and reprogram the module? He tows a 5er and commutes a lot. He is looking for power but dosen't want excessive smoke.

Any suggestions?

As far as compatibility goes, you should be fine. If the banks module is your average timing/fueling box there are loads of those stacked with injectors on this board. He will need to consider egt's and transmission strength, however.

NO,

If you up the injector size, the ottomind will engage the safe 1300 degree limiter sooner. It will see egt's rise faster and anticipate when to defuel sooner thus cutting fuel sooner. You actually will hurt performance.

HOWEVER ... if you yank the egt probe and let it sit by idle leaving it connected, and use a seperate egt guage to monitor things then that is a whole different paint job.

I have DD II,s with a complete Banks setup including the Power Elbow and the Big Hoss 5 and haven't notice the OttoMind jumping the gun to defuel because of the EGT ramp rate. I does make sense that it might however. I'm pretty close to moving up to DDIII's or something a little stronger.

I also have the full Banks setup on a 2000-3500 6 speed. I just installed 275 injectors. Egt's seem lower at cruise, boost slightly higher, spoolup faster, less smoke at wot getting on freeway and new clutch on the way. Southbend of course.

The truck is a straight shift.

In reguards to diconnecting the egt probe, has anyone done this to confirm. Could I not rewire the guage straight and bypass the module? That sounds like it would work, and still remain safe.

What kind of hp gain would he expect with DDII or III's.

Instead of yanking the probe can he just paint it a different color?:D

Oh I don't know if we need to be trashing Banks and implying some defect of intellect or judgement for using their various products. I didn't pursue mechanical engineering or boundry mathmatics as a career but I've been able to stay out of prison, pay my bills, own an 01 Dodge with a HO Cummings TD, and find the TDR and it's wonderful members so maybe my decisions to patronize Banks isn't actually a defect of some kind as you imply. I like the way my truck runs; strong, reliable, a bit noisy, and often a real suprise to road idiots. In fact, I'd probably be happy to use Banks again.

Banks PP & Injectors

I just put a set of DD 2's in my truck about two weeks ago. I liked how the truck ran with just the Banks kit on it but there is a major improvement with the injectors. They really helped on the bottom end and helped the turbo spool up a lot quicker. I never had any EGT problems before the injectors but I run empty up and back to work most of the time. With the injectors if you go wide open on the throttle then you will hit the EGT limit on the ottomind but it will just cut the fuel back to where your runnin at 1250 degrees. I don't know how good of a clutch you have but I started loosin my overdrive after about 25000 miles with the Banks kit. Disabling the EGT function of the ottomind sounds like a BAD idea to me. Mine runs great with the EGT limit, but I will probably be lookin into a turbo upgrade anyway just to see what it can do when they aren't holdin it back. :D

well, its a proven fact, that bank's power claims are highly over rated, infact its been tested, but if it works and you believe it is worth the price then ok.

Works for me...

but I'm not trying to win the hp wars. My only issue with the Banks box and injectors is that with it being on all the time, the cruise tends to hunt a little in rolling hills.

what do you mean by the "Cruise hunts?" i have an edge ez, and a comp on the way and havent had an issue, just curiosity. i havent put my DD3s in yet, so i cant comment on the injector situation, im still waiting till the DTT parts come in... .

I run a Banks power pack and big hoss 5 as my base modification and have also noticed the system on cruise (which is "drive by wire" isn't able to regulate the fueling in small enough increments to prevent over accelerating and then having to cut off---almost exclusively on hills and worse with nice cold dense air. Usually the cruise is set around 70 and the steeper the grade, the more noticable it is. The only way I can do any better is to accelerate steadily up the hills. The Big Hoss 5, power elbow, and Edge EZ didn't make things any worse. Running the hills with my Gear Vender in 6 over reduces the effect. Seems to me like its just too much power.

I think retrainig the cruise helps some for awhile and it seems that using the accelerate and coast functions frequently contributes to the problem.

If I recall, retraining the cruise involves turning the main cruise power switch on, setting the cuise on a pretty level road, powering it off, power on and repeat the cycle about 10-12 time.
