I'm posting this as there is some info about the cooling fan that might help others that may be having a cooling problem. I lost the fan clutch when coming home from PDR a week ago. Was pulling the travel trailer so I had some interesting hill climbs considering it was about 100 degrees!
When empty the temps were normal. I had been fighting a slight heat problem for the past year and replaced the radiator about 4 weeks ago with a new unit
I had replaced the clutch a year and a half ago with a NAPA unit so this time I figured I would go back with a Dodge unit. Called the dealer and had him get a clutch. When talking to him he said the computer flagged a new fan whenever the clutch was replaced. He said he thought it was an upgrade fan but wasn't sure. My first reaction was no, don't need a new fan but then thought that maybe a balance issue or blade problem might have contributed to the failure. Sooooo, I told him to get the new fan also.
The new fan is different that the old! The diameter and blade count is the same but the blades have more twist/curve to them, are thinner metal, and are made with stiffening ribs. The old fan blades have no ribs but has thicker metal. I put this thing together last night but have not driven it yet. Probably won't notice anything different until I tow again.
