Am I the only old geezer left who prefers to simply consult a paper map (or Google Maps) before starting my trip? I have a Garmin GPS that I got for my wife, but I never use it. I find it annoying for (at least) a couple of reasons:
1. I don't like to have no clue where I'm going, hoping that the GPS will guide me properly (which, as it has proven on numerous occasions, it does not always do!).
2. If I DO know where I'm going, then the GPS usually tries to route me some other way, telling me (for example) to turn left every few blocks, while continually intoning "Recalculating" in the intervening periods.[/QUOTE

That's exactly how I am, wife uses GPS not me. Not only do I look at maps I also check my truckers atlas for low clearance bridges if I have the RV.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, the Nav option on RAM is about $800 vs GM's junky $2000 Nav. and you still pay $150 for updates. If you give up on the RAM Nav. Go with Google, it's awesome. My opinion.

Took a trip from Bakersfield Ca. to Wyoming a couple months ago. Co-pilot used my iPad Pro with Around Me, Gas Buddy, and Google Maps. Huge screen and all the information we needed. For the brief times we didn't have connectivity she used the hand held Garmin to fill in the blanks.
