Who Makes a good GPS?

What do i need to look for when buying?

I will only use it for trips and such.

I was looking at the Garmin GPS V

You won't find better for less than the Garmin V for the purpose you stated. Should be around $410 on the web. I've got lots of experience with the hand held GPS units. If you have specific questions send me a personal message and I'll try to help.

I have a Gramin V and love it. The first thing I did was to set a waypoint for my home. Now no matter where I go, I can always get home.

It is also very helpful when you go to a new frined's house the first time. In my case a new customer. It also helps when the wife wants to go left, but, is not really sure where we are going. Saved a couple hours on that one.

Side note I am told that Garmin GPS V is discontinued and Garmin GPV V+ is the replacment. You may find http://www.gpscity.com/ helpful.

I have had a garmin street III pilot for 2 months. It is absolutly incredible. I relocated to Tampa from Daytona and it has been a lifesaver. It recalculates on the fly and and the voice will tell you what lane to be in and when to turn. Try gpsdiscount.com they are garmins largest distributor . The

STPIII came down in price in July. The unit with 128 meg card

map source, bean bag, cables and extra mounts was around 700. In May when I started looking that setup was around 1600$. A TDR member told me the price was coming down , I waited

and very happy with it .
