Dodge-Isuzu Diesel Joint Venture 1/2 ton

"MEGA Cab"?

I would talk to the station owner and ask him to pay for the problems. Gas pumps should not be green, im sure there is a law somewhere or regulation. If not take him to court since that is BS

Around here the Mobil Stations use green on one of their unleaded. But to throw another twist into it the stations that use pumps with one hose for the three different unleaded and another for the diesel had a red nozzle for unleaded and a green for diesel.

I guess I'm just smarter than the rest of you, I can read. :-laf D-I-E-S-E-L, and this time of year I can even decifer #2 vs #1. I am kinda lucky though, I've never seen a green handle on a gasoline pump. Road diesel is almost always green, sometimes black, off-road red, and the only time I ever see a yellow handle is for Kerosene. Maybe MN regulates handle color, I dunno.

Unless you fill at a Mobil station, and in Arizona, first time for a different colored handle, in Flagstaf. But it did read DIESEL. (just got back from there)

In Oregon where they serve you, you have to tell them DIESEL, and them make sure they pick up the correct nozzle. Alot of them will let you do it your self, but then, you get that "i've got to do it" person.

just my penny's worth.

. He put over 100 gallons into his Caterpillar-powered Peterbilt 379. He drove about 50 miles and then noticed his truck starting to run hot. I don't believe any damage was done, he was back on the road in a few days.

So I don't think that gasoline would make a diesel engine "explode" but I could see it causing the engine to seize with the decreased lubricity of the fuel.

It will be interesting to see if his truck starts to consume the engine oil at a higher rate. I was told that the gasoline burns at a higher temperature and can take the temper out of the liners and rings in a diesel making them wear funny and allow them to drink oil.

Any one else ever heard that?

then "i've got to go to the next station" person you should turn into...

and another color for the diesel pumps, i filled up to day at shell black handle for normal diesel and they also had "premium" diesel there for $0. 02/liter more and it had blue on the handle...

my brother once had a 84 camaro z28 he needed fuel so he puled into the station. he pulled up to the combination pump no. 2 and gas. stuck his credit card in grabbed the diesel handle hit the 89 button and went to fill the car. i was watching the whole thing. when he went to stick the pump handle in and it didnt fit he looked at me kinda disappointed and said ... ... my car is to old to fill at this station the nozzle does not fit. i was laughing so hard all the way home i still bring it up once in a while especiacaly when he drives my truck!!

Here's my truck with a full tank of gas. You can clearly see the green handle at the pump.

This happened 2,000 miles from home in Minisota.

I'm going to try really hard to NOT do that again. :-laf

After reading this entire thread, I am surprised one thing was not mentioned about the initial thread starters experience:

Why has the AAA "certified" shop not been reported to AAA for trying to defraud one of their members?!!! This really torques me that a AAA member services center referred them to you to tow and remedy the problem.

Clean injectors? Change out Fuel filter? And threaten with a damage waiver which you signed?!! Hmmm, what is wrong with this picture?

If you really didn't start the truck yet, then why try to stick the member with a rediculous pumped up repair bill? It is because of shops like this being certified by AAA that I dropped my membership with them. I will not support their crooked practices or lack of attention to the quality of the contracted service stations and tow services they hire.

The issue shouldn't be let go. I'd recommend following up as follows:

1. Check with your state fuel board to try see if the state does require a standardized color on the pump's or not. If so, report the gas station.

2. Notify AAA in writing of the practices their certified shop is pulling on their members. Send it certified so you have record of their receiving it.

3. Contact the better business bureau and/or your state's business standards division to file charges for fraud against the repair shop. List AAA on the complaint as well. Follow up on the complaint to make sure it is acted upon.

4. See if you have a local news channel with a consumer advocate troubleshooter. If you don't speak up, you can bet the next guy/girl will get shafted too. It would be nice to hear something on the 6 O'clock news other than a guy chopping up his wife or more anti american crap from the UN.

5. Take a spray can and mark the pump at the gas station GAS or DIESEL so no one else does the same. (if my truck ended up damaged, I would J B weld the levers in the off position as well, just a glob of it on the handle will do hold nicely in the receiver tab of the pump hanger).

Remember, always leave a bad situation better than you found it, unless its the middle east, then just eliminate it all together.

Just FYI in the state of Or e gun (for all you non-native types) :) it is against state law to self serve... don't know why, just is. So if you passing through and decide to fill up, don't give the attendant a rash of poop, they're just doing their job.

To my understanding, technically, Oregon law only prohibits self serve on Gasoline, but allows it on diesel. Many of the stations and chains have a policy to prohibit self serve on both, likely to avoid argument.

i am pretty sure it is more #1 fuel mixed into the standard #2 fuel... ends up with a higher cetane rating, a little better performance, but lower fuel economy...

I think you'll find #1 diesel has a lower cetane rating than #2 diesel and that a higher cetane rating results in higher fuel economy,

Call me ignorant, but I never associated the color of a nozzle handle with a type of fuel. I've always looked at the pump. Looked at the Cetane sticker, then double check to see it I have the correct nozzle.

Around my neck of the woods, I've never seen any consistant use of handle colors. In fact, many of the stations have advertisements in all black handles.

Its their solution to Welfare, stupid idea. Does nothing to promote people to achieve higher quality of life. For diesel, you can pump your own fuel. The attendants are only there for gas nozzles.

I wouldn't give them a hard time, except the last two times I pulled in with the engine running as they approached, they stuck the gas nozzle in my tank without even asking. I was at the diesel/ gas pump both times with my filler door parrallel to the diesel handle.

Can't stand ignorant and unobservant people. Says," DIESEL FUEL ONLY" right on my gas door. GRRRRR!!!

THe only thing that infuriated me more about Orgegon fuel is their PUC charge they shaft all out of staters with. I make sure I fill up on the washington side of the Columbia now and take my transfer tank with me to make sure I am out of Oregon before needing to fill up again. Worse place than CA when it comes to fuel!!! I'll pay my share, but not when I am targeted as an out of stater on vacation contributing to their commerce with hotels, restaurants, and sight seeing as it is.
