Scott and the Missus are vacationing. They have been down through the Shenandoah Valley, visiting train sites and Civil War battlefields. After a night in Roanoke, they took in the Transportation Museum and the O. Winston Link Museum. He was the photographer that documented the last days of steam locomotives.

Me and my Missus had prepared a dinner for the travellers. They arrived just after 1600. After snooping under the hood and drooling in the engine compartment, we went inside to eat. It was a very enjoyable time and we wished they could stay the night. However, they were commited to getting to their accomodations in Charlotte, NC.

After I got a diagnosis from the good Doctor (Greenleaf), we took a few pictures to document our mini-1st Gen Jamboree. We said our goodbyes and they were on the road again by 1945. It was our pleasure to meet and spend time with someone I have gotten to know in our small but distinguished circle.

If any of you folks are heading down I-81 and have the time to get off the main road for a while, please let me know. Plenty of parking space!

Here's the picture of this years attendees. (I'm the good looking one!) :p

His parting words, as he drove away, "D*mn the hurricane, Full Speed Ahead!!"

They're going to his Mom's, which is not too far south of where Charley made landfall. I took a picture of them that he wanted me to email to you. I'll get that out today.

Didn't see any hurricane action enrout to the Sunshine State. I did drive through the area that Charley had exited just today (8/15/04) between Orlando and The JFK Space Center. No power @ any of the fuel pumps, stores etc. Trees down. Road signs destroyed. I reached Titusville and they had been swamped by motorists seeking a working gas pump. They done run out of gas. That's ok. I don't need it!

Here in Naples FL, I see things are getting back to normal. Lots-o-tree branches setting along the road waiting pick-up.

The hurricane set foot ashore North of here a bit.

This is Greenleaf reporting for the Turbo Diesel Register.

Oh yeah guys... . I dun run a Second Gen Dually, 24 valver off the Interstate. I played cat and mouse with him awhile untill he high-tailed it off the exit ramp. It was a nice looking truck too. Too bad it's so slow. Does anyone know how fast your going if the needle passes 100 and points straight down... do yah?????

-S

I know exactly how fast that is Greenleaf..... up here we call it "Lots 'O MPH"..... or in metric... no 2 wheels on the ground at the same time MPH... . there ya go... :D:D:D

BTW, good report... now all I gotta do is figure out how I'm gonna have some "plausible deniability" regarding the 1st gen, relates to this forum explanation when it gets pointed out that this should go in "Other"..... hmmmm..... keep me on my toes you guys... . ;)

On a serious note... I sure hope that those folks affected by "Charley" can get back to normal quickly... . it sure was a nasty outcome...

Pastor Bob... saying grace for those affected... .

Greenleaf: That's H: Speed! (if It's pointing at the H in MPH) I can acheive M Speed in my Dodge Spirit RT. The truck's gov kicks in too early on mine. Oh well mods soon to come.

I wish I had more time to travel and meet 1st gen/Cummins ppl!

and here too

But I was just leaving Houston. The boys mentioned a small prob with the hitch. Hope they got you going. Sorry I wasn't there to chat a while. Next time.

Back home again... ... .....

We are back home again and a fine job accomplished with 1st gen Cummins power to say the least!

With all the mods my engine has seen it was netting me 24-26 mpg (@ 70 mph) loaded with two weeks worth of vacation supplies.

Pulling a loaded trailer back home we saw 16-19 mpg (@70mph) depending upon the terrain we encountered.

I stopped @ 1st gen member James' shop in Tifton GA to tighten the hitch ball. The guys were very helpful and eagar to lend a hand. Thank-you very much!!!

I don't know the weight of the trailer but it had the truck sagging in the back. What was most amazing was the old girl was capable of accelerating up hill. Often times I would encounter a slow moving truck whilst climbing a hill and would have to slow down to allow other motorists in the left lane to pass. I could pull out from behind these trucks, change lanes, and accelerate up hill.

Pyrometer reading w/trailer in tow was 900° easy. I had 1000° a few times and if I wanted I would see 1400° with out trying, in some "up hill test runs". I believe I'll encounter difficulties in performing a dyno run @ WOT due to my "tests" performed on the open highway.

It was fun to have sports cars attempt to pass my lumbering truck/trailer climbing hills, only to have their attempt shattered.

We traveled 3,542 miles.

transmission sensor (in pan) read 150 to 160° w/trailer

Boost;10 psi w/trailer @ 70 mph on flat ground

Pyro; 900° " "

Engine temp;didn't get warm

RPM;@2000 with trailer @70mph on flat ground

Scott, you might have damaged their self-esteem... ... at least we can hope so!! :D

Glad to see you're home safely. I'll be sending you some pics I took of the Crewe Homecoming and Tractor Show. Also will send all the pics I took of your rig.
