Manual hubs are a must have for me! I'm very interested. An added plus here is that Dynatrac products are first rate.

Response after one week is 41 replies. That's good.

I'm guessing that maybe half will be potential buyers. Some won't. There's no way they will build a serviceable/lockable hub for the same price as the throw-away units that are built by the thousands. Anyway, 20 or so orders would be a good initial order for Dynatrack I would think. We'll know soon if they are interested. It may take them a while to come up w/ a price, but I'll try to get a ball park figure to guage serious interest.

More Later!

Update!

I talked to Dynatrack (sp?) yesterday & got an indication of interest once I told them of how many people are interested. The guy I spoke with said he would call me back in a couple of days after talking to their engineers.

It looks like we've topped out at about 40, hopefully we'll get more. I'm guessing that an initial order will be what drives their decision.

I'll get back with info when I get it.

Have Not heard back yet, but wanted to bring this topic back up to the top of the list in case someone else wants to chime in.

I might be interested but probably not for while since I wouldn't buy until the oem ones fail. Couple of questions / concerns:

1) What about voiding any suspension warranties? Not too worried about this since a dealer would have to be an idiot (but they do exists don't they).

2) With these locked in it would be exactly as we have today right? So I could just lock them in the fall and unlock them in the spring if I choose to and everything is OK?

3) What about relative strength compared to the oem? I would suspect the sealed always locked design is inherently stronger?

4) With the center cap on the current wheels, it would hide the locking mechanism which could be a annoyance when needed and not planned for. Any ideas? If you only generaly do the fall/spring switch I guess it wouldn't be a big deal.

I'm really not that up in arms about the oem system. Sure it might cause a little more rolling resistance and a tad more wear on front drivetrain components (although I've never wore out a diff anyway) but the good points are that it's always there when needed, very easy/quick to engage and disengage and the front axle / diff are always being lubed.

Hubs

I would love them when my front ones have worn out. I think the cost will play a factor in the final outcome. They have been making locking hubs for ever and I cant see why DC did not use them!!!

Update!

I'm trading emails w/ Dynatrac. They have expressed some interest. They have asked if we have a guinea pig available near their place. I have asked them to give me some details as to what that would involve. I can imagine they would disect the stock hub, take measurments/pictures etc. Will update when I have more info.

I'm really pleased to get this response from them. it seems incouraging.

Later!

Them wanting a guinna pig is a little worrisome. I'd like to think we (the TDR members as a whole) wouldn't be buying 15-25 sets on these after the first generation of R&D {if we can call it even that}.

Obviously, this is just MHO.

john:

if i lived near them id do it for sure. those guys are good. A buddy of mine is good friends with those guys he runs a shop and has there axles on many jeeps.
