Installed my GSK today! Royal pain in the @$$! But hey I'm a novice at this stuff.

Got all the way down to the plug, had to take an arm that attaches to the shut off solenoid off the side of the pump, then finally got the plug out, and used a screw driver to turn the retainer nut. Well finally got everything out 3 springs, 2 seats, 1 shim (per side) and got the new springs in and screw driver wasn't working good enough to really "feel" the clicks of the retainer nut! So I had to go to sears anyways I picked up a tack remover on Kalaehina's suggestion. (had to drive dad's Toy-yo-yo Taco yuck! )

Come back home and the tack remover doesn't work all that great so I ended up modifying a mini pry bar and it works like a charm!

Got the other side done and tigtened back down, and then fooled with the plug for about 15 minutes trying to get the threads to catch. Went to put my shutoff solenoid back on and the boot just ripped apart. Well seeing as I had to go to work tomorrow in this truck I took another Kalaehina suggestion and made a new boot out of a old bike tube. Then after we got the solenoid back on and everything buttoned up the truck fired right up.

These new springs are GREAT!!Oo. Oo. Great new throttle response almost like a 24V, but really revs quick in 2nd and 3rd.

My idle also came up a little. It was on the first line down from 1,000RPM (like 750-800RPM?) well now its between that line and 1,000RPM and I like it there so unless its hurting anything I'll leave it. With 33's and 3. 55 gears it makes taking off easier.

Anyways I quit babbling now. Got my spings in love it! Also ordered my clutch today! (BOMB bug got me!) Soon to have # 10 plate!!:D Oo. Oo. Oo.

and then fooled with the plug for about 15 minutes trying to get the threads to catch. Take the top bolt out of the arm for the shutoff solenoid and loosen the bottom so you can move it out of the way... . this is a bunch better, you'll have this down to 15-20 Min in time.

Two way it might affect you. 1. Throttle too touchy on the road... cruise on. 2. When it's cold you have to hold the throttle with your foot a bit till it will idle..... knew you would like the springs.

Thanks Jim. Although I don't have cruise control, and I've always had to hold it for a few seconds when its cold.

Thanks for the info though.

Mark:

Congratulations on the GSK install..... two more weeks and I get the same kit, plus the #10 plate, pump timing and three ISSPRO guages installed as well as getting the KDP whacked. I feel like a kid waiting for Santa to arrive. He's late, but at least he's coming.

I have been in and out of my pump 4 times now playing with those springs, and finally got it right, and they are set at two clicks. I also made a custom tool to work the retaining nut, and it works like a charm. I found that with the retaining nut too tight, about 5 clicks, my accelerator got touchy and the idle came up. The way it is set up now, everything works great; all the way to 3600 rpm!Oo.

Eric

Oo. Right on Mark!, First step of the journey complete. Where are you going to do your clutch? What type did you order? (power rating wise). Anyway congratulations dude!Oo.

I just wanted to say that I installed the 4k kit and the #10 in my truck the two weeks ago (Thank-you Santa). Was going to put an exhaust brake on so Al @ Piers suggested going with the 4k since you had to replace the springs anyway. No difference money so no problem. Except dropping a valve spring keeper into the oil pan!!

Question: How does loosening or tightening the nut affect the performance? I am fairly new at this stuff to.

Congrats on the install. The difference in my truck was awesome. I even impressed the local gasser freaks. They are a tough crowd, not to much in the way of diesel performance in this area.

i got my gsk in and i love it. i will back down on the plate though. it's great to be able to pull the hills at a fast speed now...

GotSmoke, How long did it take from start to finish to get those spings in? Im going to be doing that here soon and would like to know what kind of time frame Im looking at.

Thanks,

Tom you don't wanna know! I'll send ya a PM in a day or two (no time to type a lot tonight)

Anyhow had a couple of days to play with the springs and I absolutely LOVE IT!! 3,000RPM IS WONDERFUL!!! :D Oo.

Just one question for any of you guys who might still read this..... this includes you Kalaehina!

My RPM's seem to JUMP! from about 1300RPM on! Like I can't hold it steady. Could I maybe have the springs down 1 click to many? Idle is up 50-100RPM's but I really like that because it helps in taking off with my 33" tires and 3. 55gears! But I just wonder if maybe I have them 1 click to tight. They are only 3 click's down. But once it hits 1500RPM is comes up quick and hard!:D Oo. Is this normal?

Hey Mark, I did my install exactly the same, 3 clicks and my idle is about 800 maybe 900 rpms, my rpms don't seem to jump quick through that zone, they will if I push it, but there is no noticeable jump. I know it's a pain but maybe a click out would help:( . I don't know if my 4. 10 compared to your 3. 55 makes a difference. I know some were talking about a touchy pedal if the screws were too tight, this may explain why it's difficult to control it in that range???

Same here

After installing my 3k GSK my RPMS tend to jump too.

If try to slowly bring up the RPMs while in neutral they'll be fine until about 1000RPM then they'll climb to about 1500-1600 with no peddle movement. If I try to drop them they just fall back to 1000. I can't hold them anywhere in between 1000-1500.

If I shift and the RPMs are in between 1000-1500, it'll surge up and down unless I get on the skinny peddle right away.

I figure one or both springs are maybe a click too tight but haven’t had time to play with it yet.

Take it easy

Mike

got smoke...

I had the same deal with the rpm's. I have a high idle solenoid, and if I switched it on, and let the truck set for a few minutes, the rpm's would go from about 1100 to almost 2000 all by itself! The first time that I adjusted the springs by 'clicks' I had them set at 5 clicks. Way too tight! The throttle was touchy, and the idle came up to about 1000 rpms. I backed them off to 2 clicks, and everything is cool. Normal pressure on the pedal, normal idle, and it will still rev to about 3500 rpm's. My recommendation is 2 clicks. You'll be surprised how fast you can get in and out of there, especially with pracitice. :D Good luck.

Eric

Hey Got Smoke weren't you thinkin about sellin your truck? Why the hell would you want to do that? I have almost the same setup and would not sell my truck for anything. Oh yeah and 5-speeds rule! Now I might buy another Dodge to pull my trailer or something, but I don't think I could sell it. I guess the more you do to your engine the the more you cannot let it go. Keep up the bombing... . it never stops!!! I still have so much I want to do and I thought I would be done a long time ago.

read MORE ROOM! :-laf

I was looking for a 2500 Club Cab to replace my Standard Cab. Don't get me wrong I love my truck, but now with a nice reliable truck I go on more trips in it, and cargo space is always a issue (no bed cover, and no plans for one... STACKS!:D )

Anyhow I couldn't find a 2500 CC I could afford so I will hang onto my truck probably until next year ('04) and when I get out of college I look into getting a Ext. Cab

2ndly let me say Hmmmmmm... ... stretch truck already paid for and spend less than buying Ext. Cab truck with the PLUS of more room than an Ext. Cab!! Something to consider once the title has my name only on it!:D Oo.
