Don't answer that one too quick there kids LOL! #ad

O. K so I Hop in the truck tonite before the drive home and had an idea. My temp guage has been showing the classic "You Mr. Need a thermostat" kind of reading. From cold up thru operating temp to about 210 degrees and back down to 190*. So I think Hmmm what if I ... ... ... and did the following

1. Hold down the Odometer button

2. While Holding it down turn on ignition

3. Wait for display activity and watch the show of display tests / needle sweeps @ 1/4 , 1/2 , and full sweeps , all warning lights and such.

Start the truck and begin the drive home.

What I noticed next is either one of two things.

A: Coincidence that I somehow just recalibrated the cluster?

B: The cluster IS now recalibrated

Hmmm I will let ya'll know. Does D/C use this method for anything other than to verify the movement of needles , check bulbs ?

You are nuts... :) :p :)

Seriously, I don't know for sure, but the SM says that's all it's for, but I seen crazier things with electronic "resets". My theory is: sometimes the electrons just need a little shakeup to get them flowing better again.

P. S. My truck temp overshoots 190 every warmup cycle too. Doesn't bother me because it's only a couple of needle-widths over, and settle right in after that. Just tells me the T-stats workin. And I've done the cluster self-test several times and it doesn't change it.

YOUR NUTS!!!! But that has nothing to do with your cluster problem!:D

Seriously I had a Chrysler minivan here at the shop on a road-test after doing the trans I noticed the Tach was not working. I couldn't remember if it worked before so I did a cluster test via my Snap-On Scanner. The test worked all the guages correctly so I assumed we did something to the tach signal. However when I exited the scanners test mode the tach was again working perfectly and has not missed a beat since. And after talking to the customer he told me that the tach was not working when he dropped of his car. You Might be onto something Tim

Reminds me of Dad's 'oldy-but-goody' Maxon VHF handheld...

It's crystal driven and has 4 channels.

Every once in a while... it craps the bed.

I usually swear at it a few times (I have found that swearing at it in Hindi works the best... . ) and slam it onto a hard surface (steering wheel seems to do the trick) once or twice.

Brings it back to life every time. It ain't broke... you just need show it who's boss every now and then.

I give credit for this 'fix' to Fonzi (from the popular TV show Happy Days)... he taught me that slamming something... like a juke box... could just fix it right up.

:D

Matt

I used to have to slam the power supply for an old Commodore 64/128 on the table to make it work. This worked for quite some time but it finally quit.

Kinda like my oil pressure gauge. Sometimes it won't come up right away when starting. The "Check Engine" light stays on from testing, couple seconds later the needle pings to near middle and the light goes out. Weird.
