Ok, I need some help here... I was wiring in my guages, got to the lights, and ran the wire to the bottom leg of fuse#13, as I believe I read that here on TDR. The lights on the guages were on, but did not work with the switch. We located a wire under the dash that allowed the lighting to come on and off with the light switch, so hooked in there. What I would really like is to splice into the wiring to allow dimming, but I hate to pull my dash apart to get at the dimmer switch. Anybody out there know how I can locate a wire(color coded, etc) that comes from the dimming switch, and I can just splice into it under the dash?
Thanks,

Rob,

According to the tst website gauge installation instructions:

"Attach one of the two black wires for the instrument bulb to a good metal ground and attach the other black wire to the lower side of the dash illum 5A fuse, fuse 13 in the block. Using this fuse as a power source dims the gauge lamp when the instrument panel is dimmed. Connecting to the lower side of the fuse protects the gauge lamp circuit with the vehicle 5A fuse"

This is the power source I used, and it comes on and dims with the dash.

On my '99 QC 3500 , it is the "5 amp fuse" , tan in color , and is numbered # 5 , use the bottom leg of the fuse. # 13 is for my power door locks. It is on the top of the fuse block , and in the middle. It is also the only 5 amp fuse I see.
Hope this helps.

Rob,

I have a better way than tapping onto the leg of fuse #5. The dimming circiut is an orange wire, and is easily found in a small junction under the dash. I switched mine over the other day, and it took all of 2 minutes to do. No special parts or fuse leg taps needed. I's be glad to show you what to do! #ad

I tapped into the light that runs to the ashtray. Works great.
