i am going to buy a pyrometer and boost guage and want to mount it on the piller. isspro or autometer? which are preferred by members? do members prefer piller or dash mount? will either mount restrict visibility and will i be able to install them myself? thanks

Hello

I have both mounting options. I would recommend Isspro but what do I know. Be SURE to get the 60psi boost though!!! If you make any moderate mods, you'll soon surpass the 30#

Please keep in mind your lay-out. Keep the boost and pyro together. Better yet is a boost/pyro/tach together. Then if you add others like the transmission temp/oil psi and coolant/fuel psi they can be read separetly from the most important, ie the boost/pyro.

You have the right idea ... ... . gauges prior to mods!!

Pastor will be along to reward you with some bonus hp

I think most people prefer the ISSPRO.

As long as this thread is going, can someone recommend where to get a pillar mount for my 1st gen?

John

I have Westach gauges on mine -- love 'em, but they do look rather plain. I just installed some ISSPro gauges on my buddy's Powerchoke Excursion -- they look great and seem to work just fine.

Before you decide on the pillar mount, realize that with our upright A-pillars that you will not quite get a head-on view of the gauges -- they will be tilted up slightly. This bothered me enough that I didn't use my pillar mount -- I opted to mount mine on top of the dash in the bullet mounts -- they look good and are easy to read. If you've got your heart set on a pillar, I have a 2-gauge mount gathering dust. PM me if you are interested.

OK... . a couple hours of sleep and trying to shop and work and read TDR all at the same time is taxing my spelling...

I'll first ask if they have a pillar and then maybe try the piller...

I have isspro boost and pyro gauges mounted in isspro mounting cups. The cups are made of steel with steel bands that hold them to steel bases. They will never sun rot :D . I put them all the way to the left close to the A pillar. They only block a little bit of ground that I could see over the edge of the fender, no biggie.

I have to agree that the Isspro mounting cups are nice... . my tach is mounted in one on the side of the steering column.

My pyro and boost gages are mounted in the dash... . since I have no A/C I put them in the blank plates where the A/C vents would be to the right of the message center.

This way nothing is above the dash..... protecting that "sleeper" appearance ;)

(Nothing like a little "deceipt" to give an edge)

Don,

I have Isspro and ditto all the good things already mentioned. I got a pillar mount from Geno's Garage. One thing I didn't see mentioned, is that if you get the pillar mount, AND wear bifocals... ... you have to tilt your head back a notch to read them #@$%!

And as Dave said, the angle is already kind of off kilter. But being as cheap as I am, I stayed with them. However, I do like the sounds of Jay Leonard's idea.

I have the IPPSRO gauges in an autometer pillar mount. I saw another pillar pod this weekend that definitely slanted the gauges upward more than I was used to. The Autometer mount is livable, esp if you are over about 5'9". Got my gauges from DIS- www.dieselpage.com Comptetive prices, and good service, at least I have found that to be the case.

Got my tach in a single Autometer pillar mount as close to the dash as possible while leaving the lowest mounting screw visible. I'm 6'1", and the angle puts the tach right where I want to look, and its level to my eye. Put my pyro, boost and trans temp in a dashtop Banks pod. All from PDR.

One caution with the pillar pod - the little plastic thingies (technical term) that attach the pod to the pillar don't hold tight after two removals (to change bulb covers to match dash; you know - trial and error). Had to go to the hardware store to get new ones. I painted everything to match the dash - paint from the $tealership.

If you go with the A pillar model gage holder. Make sure it is the Autometer brand. It gives you a better angle than some of the other brands do. I looked at one of the other brands this last weekend with Daniel. That model I wouldn't have even mounted it. The angle was that bad.

Puckett & Philip bashing my gauge mount

You guys are mean :(

Yes, I'm the one that they are talkin' about, the pod in question is a PRO PODS, that isn't worth a :-{} I got it from Geno's. The AutoMeter mount that I saw this weekend in other people's trucks was far superior to mine. Maybe one of these days when I don't have anything to do, I might switch.
