Dunno about that- I saw 3 THP black & whites on IH-35 between Pflugerville and Round Rock this morning! You shoulda made the meeting!

The first Patrol Car I ever drove was the 67 Olds. It was pretty fast but wouldn't stop or turn very well. It handled like a Motorboat. (No power Steering or Power Brakes) LAPD had some with roll bars when they worked the Freeways that they had Super Tuned. We called them Freeway Fliers. The Mercurys were the WORST vehicle we ever had. The throttle had a habit of going overcenter and sticking wide open. In a panic when you turned the ignition off, it usually locked the steering wheel. Once this had happened, you were afraid to floorboard it.

DRR-24V,

You ought to ask my wife's aunt's brother-in-law about those Olds. He retired from the CHP on a disability after rolling one of them at Newcastle. Nobbs drove one of the Mercs into a creek near Garberville before he was stationed in Arcata. Some of those old patrol cars were a big wreck going someplace to happen.

Bill, that's 35 and DPS troopers. Also, that's out of Austin's jurisdiction. I'm talking about in town and APD.

I did'nt realize that the Monday you guys were talking about was yesterday until about noon, otherwise I would have been there. If I get to be an old man and loose my mind, it's not going to be a hard transition. :)

Cobrajet,

I recall an ad about a Mercury sedan for law enforcement that would do 160 from FoMoCo. (so Ford claimedLOL)

I also recall reading Mopar ads about being careful with your Road Runner, we make cars for the Police also!

My moment of glory:

State Trooper," We were doing 120mph and you were walking away from us. "

Chevy 350, 4speed 1/2 ton 2wd, Lightly BOMBed. :D

I remember sitting in the back seat of a '70 GTO on I45 south of Houston TX looking at the 160 mph speedo... in excess of. Not to worry, it had good biased ply tires on it.

If I remember reading correctly the top speed record by a police car was held by MOPAR from 1968 to 1995 (approx 160 mph) then in 1995 a LT1 caprice (minus lights ect. ) beat it by about 2 mph. If you've never driven a 440 powered vehicle tuned like it's suppose to be you've missed the thrill of a life time. By the way way RobG, if you've never worn the badge there is no way in h**l that you are able to pass judgement on what sort of vehicles the police need. Sounds like "another" bad experiance in your short lifetime.

Yes they do spend the time and $. Years ago Pennsylvania had a black f-150 351 supercharged with a banks or something, you could hear the whine before you could see it. You could order one from ford with same package..... almost. Buddy of mine bought one.

Our local police dept' has a black F150 with a cap. Low profile disco's on the roof. They have had a field day since day one with this rig and it did not slow down after they had the sides painted up. Guess it looks like some volunteer fireman or something coming up behind.

Sorry I've been busy.

Yes that Dodge had twins on it and some sort of fueling box. (I could see the pump wire but not the box itself) and as for the 158mph that's just what they told me, and I'm not going to call a cop a lire because the last time it cost me 100 bucks. The truck had what looked like 19. 5" rims on it and some low profile tires, had an auto (damn), and a hard tonue cover and lights on the top of the cab. The thing is completely black bumpers and grill and has Indiana State Police writen on the tailgate and the bed sides. It had leather in it and all kinds of Police goodies, radio, computer and a shotgun holder ( I want one) and a radar gun;). The rest of the stuff in the cab I have no idea what it is. I'm going to try to track it down again (hopefuly on purpose) and get a pic of the truck since some don't beleive me.

Or better yet those that don't if you would give me a description of your truck and your license # I'm sure the two patrol officers that drive it would be happy to prove it is out there. :D

I really respect what you boys in blue or brown( in Indiana ) do because if I had a gun and a fast car with the permission to give people tickets I would have done shot way to many people. :cool:and pi$$ed off all my neighbors. :D

Hey RobG-thats what makes cops such great guys-risking their lives for people like you that don't like them. Have a nice day :)

It's not what planet I'm from, it's what planet the cops are from.

You guys wanna know why I have it in for cops? A few reasons, not the main one of which is the whole ticket thing. Anybody with any sense knows that cops write tickets for two reasons: One, because they're told two, and Two, because it gives them a chance to screw with the public. They get to play Holier Than Thou to anybody they like, especially kids or to anybody who drives a car (or truck) that they want to be able to harrass.

I used to dislike 'em purely for that reason. As of a little over a year ago, I expanded it a bit more.

On November 28, 2000, my house was broken into. I called the cops, who came out. The guy taking prints was called away just as he got started and he never came back. Two nights later, the guy who my neighbor and I KNEW did the deed, tried to break into her camper. In the process, he dropped a set of car keys, which the cop that arrested him on her property didn't find. This set of car keys was to the Toyota 4Runner he was driving at the time, and also had a key to my truck on it, one of the items stolen from my house.

I turned this evidence and a detailed, written explanation of what happened over to the detective assigned to the investigation. I was never contacted again. I have called them repeatedly to get my key back, and they never return my calls and are never there when I go by the station.

So, rather than just dislike cops because they're bullies, I also get to dislike them for flat out not doing their job, even when most of the work is done FOR them by the public.

I don't care about how their job is dangerous or crap like that. If they don't like it, GET ANOTHER JOB, instead of b!tch about it, or feel like the public owes them anything or that they're Mr. Big because they're a cop.

Rob

Rob,

You forgot THE biggest reason!!!

Public safety!

NOT.

The biggest reason is MONEY. catching a bad guy pays $0, nailing speeders starts at about $100 and goes up.

Drunk drivers, oh man, now we are talking $1000's!!!

All that money goes abck into a already corrupt system that everybodies buddy makes cash.

I can't blame all police, there is some really good guys out there, but that is how the system is set up.

Some one stole you car? who cares, it was insured, that was the attitude I got. Then the insurance company tried to pin it on me. Nice.

Gee thanks, illflem, posting that pigs-in-a-blanket picture like that..... what a waste of a good truck... now I'll have trouble getting to sleep tonight.

Blind Stupidity, or Just Hatred???

I for one feel that the last several comments made about are just the ramblings or a few that are just PI$$ED because they have had one too many speeding tickets, that they probably deserved.

I feel for the guy who had a bad experience with the breaking and poor service, when it came to that local department. Sometimes you do get a lazy police officer on the scene, and sometimes they are called away on an emergency. Printing a burglary call ranks about a 2 on a scale of 10. That officer might have been tied up on something that needed his immediate attention, and probably was if he was preempted from the print call.

I for one have seen many people let off of citations, even excessive speeding ones, for just say " yes, I know why you stopped me officer", or " your right, I shouldnt have done that".

Attitude goes a long way. The police have a job to do, and you should try to see their point of view. Most police arent out to get you, they are only out to do their job with as little flack from the disgruntled jerks out there as possible.

What's the saying?? "You play, you pay". Or " You are your own warranty station. "

If you dont like the police, PLEASE do them a favor, and DONT call them the next time you need them

One last thing if you are one who hates police. Dont judge all police because of one or two bad experiences. It could be you just dont know the whole story.

Or maybe your poor attitude just distracted him from doing a proper job of policing and being nice to you.

It has been my experience that the cops are like everyone else some good and some lazy. I live in the L. A. area and I have had a running battle with the L A Sheriff's traffic enforcement in my neighborhood. It seems that because we were lower on the hill the enforcement was nil, but two blocks up the hill you can't sneeze behind the wheel. I have LAPD officers that were so lazy that I had to recover my own stolen tools, but also had some real heads up police work to recover my stolen Cherokee. I guess it is a flip of the coin. I trust them as much as they trust me!
