If any fellow members carry a handgun in their vehicle where do you keep it? I currently keep mine in the console but in an emergency it would be hard to get to and my wife would have a hard time reaching it since it opens on the drivers side. I am only 5'6" and sit pretty close to the steering wheel so resting it on the floor is not an option. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions let me know. Thanks.

If I were going to carry one I would put it under the console (console folded onto seat) most of the time but if I was in an area where I felt uneasy I would put it under the outside of my right calf muscle. bg

I keep three on me in holsters, one in the console, one between the driver seat and the middle seat, one between the passenger seat and the center seat wedged between the seats, one much larger one in the storage bin behind the seat. I figure that should cover me in most emergencies. I'm trying to find a police style gun rack where I can carry three long guns on the ceiling. Anyway, just my response.

Where legal, a 1911 will slide down between the seat and console seat section far enough to be secure and readily accessible. A wheelgun will go down in there a ways too. Try it, see what you think.

Well Us Kommies In Kommiefornia, Have to Call the Policia when in trouble, Because only Politcians and Actors can Get "Concealed Weapons Permits.

If In trouble, I was told to drive to the Nearest Donut Shop For Policia Action!

Tell me please... if a person has a concealed weapons permit in his home state, is he legal to carry a loaded weapon, concealed in all other states as he drives along? Dave

Heres the best link I have found on gun laws in other states. http://www.packing.org/

Big-D, some states have reciprocal laws, which enables you to carry in other states if you have a permit in your home state. You should be able to check with the Dept. of Public Safety in your state and find out which states honor your permit.

I have children, therefore I only carry a weapon in a holster. Only by doing it this way can I be sure my kids won't get their hands on it, possibly resulting in tragedy.
Please, those of you with children, keep control of your firearms in order to protect your children as well as yourselves.

F. Lloyd, JC Whitney used to have them. Havent seen it in the catalog lately. They called it "rifle it".
A police supply type place should be able to help. I saw a real nice one for an AR, I think it was in http://www.galls.com/index. jsp
but dont hold me to it.
Big-D... wishful thinking. I'd like to see a nation wide CCW out of this administration.
I'd like to add something to Riflesmiths reply. Teach them gun safety also!!
Paul, if you have a popular pistol that a "belt slide" type holster is made for, you can do just about anything with one of these and a little creative thinking.
I have one of these, attached to a piece of aluminum bent to 90 degrees between the mattress in my bed. It's concealed by the blanket, and always available. #ad

Frank,
Check the Cabella's catalog - I think I saw something in there.

Try searching under BigSky gun racks - I think this a name of one I saw someplace... .

I have a push button combination safe installed right under the front seat. Will hold two small/medium handguns nicely.

Keep your weapons 'safe' in the vehicle.

Big D

Because you have a concealed weapons permit does not mean you can carry in other States. If you plan on going out of state, Call the State Attorney General Office in each State, And ask what the law is in that State, Besure and get the name of the person you talk to, And if possible the Law code. Each State has differant laws on how you can carry a Gun in a vehical.
I have done this myself, And you would be surprise. Lots of Luck

P. S. Remember Gun control is two Hands

I know in WA, OR, ID, MT, WY that the CWP pertains to "carried on the person". That means under the seat, or in a safe, or between the seats... . loaded is in violatin of the permit. Some states do have a reciprical law, but a national permit is what is needed.

I keep mine in the holster stuck by where the seatbelt connects. It is hard to see there and very easily accessable for the driver. Even someone on the pass side would never know it is there because I've always got the console down.
I would like to come up with a way to hook it in front of the seat between my knees, but this is probably better since I could draw without the passenger seeing until it's too late.
Good luck, It's not a privilage to exercize your constitutional rights but a duty.

Thanks for all the responses. I am trying to figure out a way to keep it in the space under my trailer brake controller where the ashtray used to be. Very easy to reach when you are in the truck, and when you are getting in and out.

You have to check what states your state has reciprocity with. For help with this go to www.nra.org and look at their legal section. I found a good book on gun laws. It is called "Gun Laws of America" by Alan Korwin. Good book lots of info. E-mail me if I can help with anything.
