I heard a grinding noise from my right front brake. Upon inspection I noticed the inside pad had cut into the rotor & it was beyond getting turned. Purchased new rotor & pads from NAPA & of course they wanted to know GVW 7700 or 8800 lbs. Checked sticker 8800 lbs for my truck, which is what I thought it would be for the CTD. When I put the caliper back on there was not enough clearance between the pads to clear the rotor. I figured the caliper piston was not pushed in far enought. I purchased a rebuilt caliper & installed it. Now I had about 1/2 inch gap between rotor & pad. I than compared the new & old caliper & found the new one to be 3/4 inch wider overall. After that discovery I checked piston diameter & found the new one to be a 1/4" larger. I than came to the conclusion that the old calipers were for a 7700 lbs GVW.

Has anyone here had the same experience?

If you did what was your conclusion?

Randy,

It looks like your truck (2wd) gets the 80mm calipers. The 4X4 gets the 86mm. I figured they would be the same for a 8800 GVW truck?

Found this:

P/N 05003163AA 80 mm Front brake lining set

2500 series 7500 GVW (all) and 8800 GVW 4X2

P/N 04886279AA

86 mm Front brake lining set - 2500HD, 4X4, and all 3500

I have been asked what GVW the truck was when buying brake pads. There must be an error in the parts books. :)
