Bombing a Deutz

This is not a Diesel engine but I thought it cool. Had to go south to weld on mounting pads for water atomization system into a gas turbine generator. I was told that each injector was $5,000. 00. I welded 23 pads on so... ... .

Here's what a 60K HP engine looks like. Hope you like it.
 
When its running all this is CLOSED!!! I was told by those who have acsess when its running that its more of a "feel" than hear.

Gas turbine use water injection for power augumentation and emissions reduction -



And they smoke, too!



Here's a photo of the exhaust stack of a turbine(95,000hp) starting up on #2 diesel - before the water injection kicks in to control the smoke...

We use 321 on some of our high heat parts. It is also used in aircraft exhaust systems and turbo piping. Welds nice, a bit tougher on tools,especially drills and boring bars. Nice pictures and welds.

I'm just a thick headed Oakey welder Dumb***. Thats a Q for the metallurgists... ... Any one? I do know that we use it on the fittings on chlorine containment pressure vessels we fab. I'll try to remember to ask our ASME engineer tomorrow.
