The H46 recall was released for the service parts. Dealers are to inspect every truck that comes in the service dept. It is a little more extensive (16 pages) than originally thought, so best bet is to take it in and have the dealer inspect it per the recall. Customer letters do not go out until next week, but dealer info is available on TechConnect now.

Sag2, thanks for the up-date on the thrid gen's. I do have a few questions. 1. Does this recall apply to 08's or all thrid gen's?

2. If this is 08's and above do you have the serial number break that this starts with?

The reason I asked is; I thought that this was model specific and from a certain build serial number forward.

My wife and I are planning a long camping trip in June and the mail will be stop until we get home. So I will not have the notification if I need the inspection until late July. I do not want to have a steering problem pulling the 5er. So if my serial number is in this range then I can get to the dealer for an early inspection before we leave.

Thanks for the input.

H-46 Recall

My local service guy (Medford Or. ) tells me that all this involves is the method of mounting the steering stabalizer. That if it is mounted with a through bolt then it needs nothing but that if it is mounted with a "U" type connector I should bring it in. jCan that be all there is to the 16 page notice?

it still only applies to the late model steering retrofit. If you had the steering linkage replaced by the dealer in the last year then it applies to you. if not, it doesn't.

'03-08 without the steering retrofit doesn't apply.

the only reason they are sending the recall notice to all truck is so they can make sure they catch all the bad retrofit kits.

too bad I still have the original OEM steering linkage with 2 bad TREs

Funny I had done the up-date on two trucks, Went round and round with Dodge when they re-called the 08 trucks... . Well I'm not going to bore ya all you can read the posts from way back when... . I'm just glad to see that they have stepped up to the plate and admited that there is a problem out there.....

The truck will get inspected by the svc advisor,if it has the old style steering you will be on your way. If it has the updated steering the truck will be given to a tech to do a bit more inspecting.

No longer a recall?!?!

I had my 04 in to the dealer for new front rotors, pads, calipers, and axle joints (47k miles) and asked about the recall. After inspection I was told that my vehical did have the replacement parts with the ubolt connection and therefore was subject to the recall fix. I was given a loaner vehical and I agreed to stop back in a few days as I live a 100 miles from the dealership.

Upon my return I was told that the old roters were blue from being overheated as the pins were frozen in the calipers in effect keeping the brakes on at all time. The axle joints were shot and were replaced.

The recall was not done becouse Chysler sent out a notice saying NOT TO PROCESS this recall. This dealership is as good as any I have dealt with but they could not tell me why Chysler did a 180 on this. In talking with the owner I find that no other recalls have been stopped or delayed and his guess was that the "fix" simply was not solving the problem so they were looking for other options. Sooo, I guess we will just have to stay tuned to find out what the solution will be.

By the way my overhead shows about a 10 percent inprovement on fuel milage now that the brakes are not dragging.

I don't think the issue is not fixing the problem but more likely they missed a few possible scenarios. Think about all the lifted trucks that have dropped pitman arms... ... ... . they can not be replaced with the recall arm. The dropped arms need to be revised to work safely with the later steering linkage due to the slightly different angles involved.

My truck has zero lift mods. If your ride does have a dropped pitman arm I assume Chysler would not be not be concerned with any warrenty work on your truck's front end.

I quess we will just have to wait to see what the next call is.

All you guys who have Superlift kits using a dropped Pitman arm should hit them up to build a dropped arm with a compatible angle for the revised steering.

It is bad enough that they built a pitman arm that breaks.
