Bignasty,

From the North Rim we didn't drive back to the South Rim. We had the 5er with us and after touring the North Rim we drove to Mt Carmel Junction, Utah, which is right between Bryce Canyon and Zion. We camped at Mt Carmel RV Park. I had wanted to camp at Watchman, but it was full when I made reservations and we would have had to take the 5er through the long tunnel twice.

gtoli, next time. I'll let you know ahead of time and you can PM me with directions.

We went to Zion a few years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Angel's Landing is something else, especially the walk to the top. Walter's Wiggles show what could be done before too much PC nature-hugger stuff got in the way. If they tried that today, they probably wouldn't be allowed to do it. We stayed at the campground behind the Quality Inn (I think that's what it is) right outside the park. If you're ever in the Las Vegas area in the early spring or fall after it's not over 100°, I highly suggest Valley of Fire State Park. Nice campgrounds and spectacular rock formations. It works great with kids because they can climb all over the place.

The first picture is coming down from Angel's Landing on Walter's Wiggles, the second is right near our campground just outside Zion, third is an early morning visitor at Valley of Fire, and the forth are the kids goofing around on the rocks in a narrows at VoF. Love the RV'ing!

We hiked up to the Observation Point. Fantastic views, but it was quite hot and as much water as we brought,it wasn't enough. I learned to use the Camelback water packs in the future. Some people were climbing in flip flops(not successfully),and one young guy came running up the trail. No hat,no water and no shirt. We were waiting for Life Flight to arrive, but I guess the guy pulled it off. I know he bummed some water.

Going up's one thing, going down's another. My legs were like jello by the time I descended.

These pics inspire me to go back. The place is amazing and next time I'll be in better shape and better equipped.

AMink,

Nice pics of Zion.

Thank you. It's hard to take a bad photo with such good material! Here are a few more. When we went the weather was sunny, rainy, snowy, cold, and warm. It was actually a pretty cool trip because the weather really made for some interesting views.

We just home from Zion Yesterday. We liked the park so much, that we stayed an extra night in ZNP on our way to Yellowstone. On the way way home, we stopped at Zion again for two more nights!

Finally got to hike the "Angels Landing" trail.

Stayed at this park Zion National Park RV Park and Campground

Totally agree with you on how great Zion NP is. We have been to almost all NP's and Zion is our 2nd favorite, next to Glacier NP.

You stayed at a very nice campground, but at $55 per night it is somewhat spendy.

Did you go to Bryce Canyon NP? It's nice, but nowhere like Zion.

At the tailend of our 2009 trip to that area,we stayed at Ruby's in BC for a night. $33. 00 for complete hookups, unlimited hot showers and a laundry. We and our clothes were getting pretty ripe. Ate in the restaurant there but it was mediocre and pricey.

Another beautiful trip was traveling along the Ca west coast on Hwy 1 & 101. We went from San Diego all the way to the Oregon border. I must have shifted a 1000 times.

We didn't make to Bryce. Funny, I'll pay $55 a night but won't pay the $15 to go through the tunnel. Haha.

It's even nicer from the CA/Oregon border to the Candian border and beyond;)

Here's a pic of Angels Landing in ZNP.

It's a tough climb getting to the landing and it's a butt pucker, hand over fist climb to the top!

On our 2009 trip which was in late April,it had snowed the week before. A couple our age(55-60) had climbed Angel's Landing in the snow. Dang! My father in law resides in Cedar City and Angel's Landing is the site of more than a few unfortunate falls by hikers each year he said.

No way would I have tried the "Chain Section" in the snow.

Sign in front of the "chains" states that since 2004, six people have died while trying to finish the last 0. 5 mile section.

That's almost one person per year and 2011 isn't over yet.

Their only comment was that it was exhilarating. I just got the creeps looking at the photo. They didn't mention whether they made it to the end of the trail. These folks cleaned up during the high tech boom, sold their house in Silicon Valley at peak and had been retired for 10 years. Some people can pull it off.

We saw a big commotion near there with people gathered around someone. Soon after we saw a rescue rushing to the scene. Don't really know what happened.

We're planning our spring trip and are looking at Cathedral Gorge State Park in Nevada for a night or two, then over to Bryce. Any recommendations on rv camp grounds?
