OK, stock to stock!!
The guy I used to travel a lot with had an 88 Ford and I had an 84. His gross with 5th wheel on the state scales was almost 2k less than mine. He could kill me on the hills.
When I told him, I was buying a 93 Dodge Cummins and would wax him on the hills, he laughed and hooted at me for thinking a 5. 9L would out pull a 7. 3.
I got the Dodge and when it had about 1K on it we took a weekend trip. I was behind when we came to a long 6% grade with a passing lane. I pulled out and passed. I feared he might be playing with me till I looked over and saw the look on his face---he was about to tear the steering wheel off. My truck was stock except for K&N filter and larger exhaust.
In 97 he bought a new Ford and warned me he was going to get revenge on the next trip. A couple months later we took off on a trip, and again I stayed behind and when we came to a long grade with passing lane, again I pulled out and passed; we still had the same fivers and I was still about a ton heavier.
Maybe his truck wasn't running right, but He had it to three dealers raising cane and they couldn't make it run any better.
He quit traveling with me.
A second friend we often traveled with also had a 97 Ford and a fairly similiar fiver (he never weighed so did not know real weight), I could not pass him, but Icould stay with him.
Stock to Stock, we still look good
