Only time will tell... ... the sprinter looked good on paper. Had more than its share of teething issues and has almost disappeared . I drive by a Mercedes dealer nearly everyday, they have tons of them on the floor but I just do not see them on the road

I subscribe to the allpar.com website which is an excellent MOPAR website that publishes interesting Chrysler Corp. history and current products information.

I received their latest email newsletter today and ran across a link that mentioned the price of the VM Motori diesel option in a Jeep. $4500 or $5000 in a higher optioned Jeep.

I think those who are interested in purchase of a 1/2 ton diesel can assume the option will cost at least $5000.

EPA fuel mileage estimates for a Jeep were stated as 22/30 mpg. That's pretty good mileage compared to our Cummins-Rams, particularly one that weighs 10,000 lbs. like mine but a 1/2 ton pickup is heavier than a Jeep. I wouldn't expect fuel mileage better than mid to upper 20s with that engine in a 1/2 ton.

I doubt that a half ton truck with modern emissions will get much better than 19-20 MPG.

I sold my VM Motori 2. 8L 4 cylinder powered Jeep Liberty when I bought my Ram. It would average 23-25 MPG and it was possible to get high 30s on long highway trips if you kept the speeds down. This was with an economy tune. Prior to the tune it wouldn't get much over 18-19 MPG. It would tow 5-6K like a beast.

A half ton truck would weigh in a few thousand pounds heavier; then add 2 cylinders...
